Why has Tim Curry’s death been low key reported?

Has it just been announced? I’m not glued to the TV, super busy today, but I didn’t see this on the evening news.

It's been prominent in the traditional press websites. I think it was overshadowed somewhat by Dolly.
He was much beloved but less mainstream and well known.

I got a news notification around 5ish about it, and it’s been all over social media, people sharing posts from news sites etc, so I think it is being reported. As pp says, perhaps it’s a little ‘overshadowed’ for want of a better word by the news about darling Dolly.

It was definitely announced. This evening on the news, and then over social media i don't think it was underreported at all. He was also 80 what a sad week.

So sad. What an incredible talent. First loved him as Rooster in Annie aged 8.

It was mentioned on the 6pm news then on The One Show on BBC, but yes, possibly overshadowed by Dolly.

What is a bit crap, is there isn’t a single thread on MN about the catastrophic flooding in Nepal.

Thousands will have died there, that is clear from watching the footage.

I know it’s sad when celebrities die, but I’m slightly surprised no one has mentioned those events in Nepal and yet 2 celebrities have spawned dozens of threads…

There is a thread. It’s in aibu. Or you could start your own. People will be horrified by what happened there but also able to be saddened by the deaths of talented famous people who had been visible all their lives.

Tim Curry was great, loved him but his age took me by surprise, thought he was younger.

I’ve seen one - the posts I read reckoned it was insensitive to discuss on an MN thread.

I have spent the day feeling really sad about the babies in Islamabad and then the flash floods in Nepal. Awful. But also Tim Curry was a hard-working talented British acting legend whose life and death deserves to be properly recognised.

Anyway OP, there seemed to me to be an appropriate amount of coverage of Tim Curry’s death on Radio 4 in the 6pm news etc.

I have seen a few reports on the news. But not much... RIP Tim Curry... But yes, his death has been overshadowed by Dolly Parton's death. Maybe there will be more reporting of him tomorrow?

Puts me in mind of when Farrah Fawcett died. She died the same day as Michael Jackson, and much of the world was devastated when he died, so Farrah's death was barely noticed, or acknowledged.

Overshadowed or your particular algorithm - last week I couldn't get away from news about the relatively young Hayden Panettiere . Either way it's all sad.
