AIBU to say the Nepal flash flood footage is horrifying?

I've just seen the footage of the flash flood in Nepal on Reddit. I genuinely thought it was from a disaster movie at first. Absolutely terrifying and incredibly sad because the people had no chance. I can't really get my head around the scale of the flood.

So shocking. I watched some earlier and find it horrifying. Watching people running for their lives and getting swept up.

The volume of water and the speed of it it utterly chilling. You're right that it almost doesn't look real. I really hope the people swept away didn't suffer. ☹️

The footage is horrible, those poor people looked like ants compared to the building sized wave of mud, water and debris coming towards them, they had no chance.

Hopefully all the victims can be recovered and given a proper burial, it’s a huge task for rescue workers.

YANBU, it’s awful. I saw it on social media and thought “shit, what have I just seen?” They say it’s probably a glacier collapsing so more climate change deaths.

How is it disrespectful? I doubt any of the poor people killed would care which bit of a forum on the other side of the world it's posted in.

It's extremely disrespectful to be asking people to vote on whether it's unreasonable to say that a natural disaster with many deaths is horrifying.

at first I thought it was AI, the footage is just so incredible. sad that these days that's our first thought.

This is much bigger than normal though.

I watched it a couple of times before I realized the scale of it then the horror set in. I'm genuinely struggling to wrap my mind around the sheer amount of water and the size of the wave it made.

I thought the one in Norway recently was bad but this is on an entire level. ☹️☹️

I also saw a clip on Reddit this evening, it looked awful. You could see it looked windy right before the wall of water hit because it was pushing the air so fiercely.

No it’s not. Not to this magnitude. I’ve been there several times and although the rivers swell and are prone to flooding, this is something else.

A local guy I watched being interviewed was saying the temperature across the region has been unusually high even in the high mountains. This has had a knock on effect on glacial melt water (like much of… the whole world right now)

And then a relatively small earthquake triggered a collapse of the landscape.

It’s untrue to say events like this happen regularly there, historically Not to this degree.

It now looks like the glacial collapse was so large it has registered as seismic activity rather than being caused by an earthquake.

Where you put this thread is of no consequence, OP, your intentions were fine, you just wanted to talk about a shocking event.

AIBU is a popular page so I think it's fine to put it here because it's a horrific news story which others might want to discuss.

The fact that this disaster seems to have been caused by global warming is something that should concern us all.

And, as pp, said the numbers of dead and missing are going to rise, this is looking like a huge disaster that will affect countries across the world because so many tourists have been caught up in it.
