To think Dolly Parton was some sort of prophet or philosopher

There have been loads of clips of Dolly Parton interviews around and articles with quotes and the more I watch and read, the more I think she was some kind of font of wisdom. An oracle. A prophet.

Her approach to life, everything, she was like Yoda in rhinestones. Just the perfect attitude, and a long, productive, inspirational life.

”Legend” is thrown around liberally but in her case it is fully deserved.

That really doesn't surprise me.
I watched a clip on BBC last night her opening a cupboard on the campervan 'and there's another two Dolly's right there' two wigs on stands!

So what's the message. Women cant age?

Love, love, love Dolly. She’s my hero snd the one famous person I would have loved to have over for dinner.
Love her music, love her bright spirit and her ability to smile so much. She helped so many people and the love she had for her family shone through. I think because she came from humble beginnings and always dreamed of being rich and famous she always appreciated everything she had.
An exceptionally talented musician, very shrewd business woman and an absolute legend

"Yoda in rhinestones" - love it. She was a true force of goodness. While billionaires are spaffing money on spaceships and dodging tax, she sent out over 300 MILLION books. She only ever had nice things to say and her actions backed up her kind nature.

Dolly was simply magnificent

There was certainly something very special about the lady.

She wasn't sending any message, other than she didn't want to bag and sag, that was her choice.

I can't ever remember a celebs death having such an impact; it's on a par with Princess Diana's. Everybody loved her; she touched so many with her talent, storytelling, and generosity.

RIP Dolly.

I saw her live bout 15 years ago and she was by far the best artist I’ve ever seen live. We need more Dollys in this world.

a testimont to her is that not one bad word has been reported - every one is sharing food things, lots she did in the background.

She was so funny and so honest. I read somewhere that in an interview she was asked if she spent a lot of time at her hairdresser, she answered "I don't know, I'm never there" The wigs were at the salon, she was elsewhere. 😂😂😂

What message? She wasnt giving a message. She was just herself and doing what she made herself happy with.

Good for her. She was genuine, more genuine than anyone else actually. Because she didnt actually do things in response to others, she just had her own way and her own person.

Love her.

She was brilliant wasn’t she. One of a kind.

Does everything have to be a message though?

No it doesn't.
But if she did send any message out, it was not to judge others and be accepting of people, whoever they are. I believe that was the way she lived her own life.

hear hear - am also really saddened by her death, she just seemed like an incredibly kind generous wise and joyful person, who also happened to be extremely talented, funny and worked damn hard. Nothing not to admire about her, and the world seems like a sadder place without her in it.

I think plastic surgery is neutral - personal choice. Nobody should feel obliged to have it, but nobody should feel shamed if they want to.

I remember a quote attributed to her.

She was once asked how long it took her to do her hair and she replied. " I wouldn't know, I'm never there".

It is sad news i really liked her.
But not everyone liked her.

There is an interview where she is asked how long it takes to do her hair, and she responded ‘I don’t know, I’m not there when they do it’ (or something like that) Absolutely hilarious and genuine. I loved her ‘it takes a lot of money to look this cheap’ philosophy. Own it!

I've seen quite a few clips of her over the last day and every one has made me laugh or smile. She was amazing. Her generosity is really to be admired.

I loved that woman so much. Interviews where she said she was not going to be the woman in a meeting and not be equal to the men, one where she said, The jokes not on me, I know exactly what I’m doing” and she did. She made no apology for being exactly who she was and wanted to be. That’s so rare in life. Added to that her philanthropy, her talent. I’m genuinely so sad

An absolute phenomenon. I've never cried when a celebrity died before, but I've shed more than a few tears for Dolly. She was much more than a celebrity.
My favourite quote of hers is:
I was the first woman to burn my bra, it took the fire department four days to put it out.

I also listened to a great interview with her a few years back where she spoke about Elvis and how he wanted to record I will always love you, but his manager wanted some sort of lasting rights to the song and she told him absolutely not, so Elvis never recorded it, but he did apparently sing it to Priscilla when they got divorced.

I loved the story about her entering a Dolly Parton lookalike competition but being told that she had gone too far and that everyone thought she was “a short gay man.”

Dolly was pure class.
She grew, and lifted those around her. She always paid attention to the little guy
When she surged, she carried those around her too, and all the while, looking for who else she could help.
She was savvy, in the best ways.

Not only was she musically gifted she was also a very shrewd and capable business woman.
