Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

The hill that I will die on. Dogs should not be allowed in eating establishments.

Just had another lunch spoilt as a family came in with 3, yes 3, large dogs and sat down at the table beside us. It’s gross, unhygienic and anti social. If I wanted to eat surrounded by animals I’d grab a takeaway and go and sit in a vet’s waiting room.

Close to £100 wasted on a lunch where I had a dog licking it’s bumhole in my line of vision.

If the lady had her dog on the floor, and had not shared her drink with her dog, would you have cared at all?
Would you had even noticed the dog?

Frankly, the way you reacted would be like me being repulsed by seeing a man pick his nose in a pub, and refusing to go to that place again.

It is very easy to check if an establishment accepts dogs. If they offend you so much, make sure you do that. These places wouldn’t be accepting dogs if it wasn’t profitable for them to do so, so I’d assume you are in the minority.

I’ve stopped going to the cafe near us after finding a dog hair on my cake! The server must have patted a dog then plated up my cake. Gross.

I love my dog! She’s family and is a beautiful mostly well behaved girl - but I’m with you @Doseofreality I’ve taken her to a pub once where we could sit outside and eat (seaside town) but I would never take her into a cafe or restaurant!

I have, he was very well behaved. One of the regulars at my last job used to bring him in. One of the few dogs I actually like and was brave enough to touch.

I don’t think you understand what audacity means- if the venue owner allows dogs then the owner is just availing themselves of a service as we all do in a capitalist society. Maybe try getting a grip.

Perhaps you could share your location so all the dog moaners can move there?

Dog owners don’t stand outside restaurants thinking how entitled they are or how they’re going to piss everyone off by taking their dog inside.
They take them because IT’S A DOG FRIENDLY RESTAURANT! The proprietors have made the decision to accept dogs in their establishment.

It's madness that there even are "dog friendly restaurants". They are animals. Animals should not be in restaurants. Full stop. End of.

Then you don’t understand dogs (fair enough if you don’t have one). Dogs are social pack animals and will generally prefer to be with their ‘family’ than left alone.
When your dog is with you, their brain releases oxytocin, the love hormone, and they feel a sense of safety and happiness. This in turn lowers their stress levels.

I think it’s disgusting too. Hardly anywhere is dog free now. Ridiculous that people compare them to children. Children are humans. Your fur babies are just animals, like guinea pigs, cats, rats, snakes, horses. None of you advocating for them to sit next to you. And I’ve had lovely dogs. But massively different thinking they should be everywhere.

I noticed a “cat cafe” had opened in town the other day. What the buggering fuck is going on. Why would any sane person want to go into these places.

I couple of years ago I went on a caravan holiday and the girl I was sharing with brought her fucking cat. I seriously was cheesed off. She put a litter tray in the kitchen area and I’m sure it waited until every time we started to eat to curl a huge shit out.

Agree with you, and I'm a dog owner. We don't take our dog to eating establishments. My DH does take our dog to one particular pub about twice per year BUT in our defence, they do not serve food.

It's unhygienic and would also put me off.

My gym allows dogs in the café there and you have to battle your way through them at times to get from your workout to the changing room. It's only a small café and they totally get in the way, they should only be allowed to be at the outdoor seating area in my opinion.

YANBU. I would never take my dog in a restaurant, cafe or any other eating establishment because she would massively embarrass me trying to blag food from all and sundry. Why these establishments welcome dogs is beyond me. I might consider a pub beer garden but even then she'd probably disgrace herself.

But it did change (and exceedingly fast) in the other direction, whereby dogs suddenly acquired the right of access everybloodywhere. Eating establishments just rolled over in the face of their first belligerent dog owner.
So it ought theoretically to be reversible just as niftily, if dog people’s solipsism within a society were challenged more robustly.

Poor kid! This is why I swerve dogs in enclosed spaces and give them a wide berth. Half the time the poor things probably don’t want to be there and are on edge. So I don’t want to bear the brunt of a stressed out dog lashing out.

I was on the train and this daft woman let her Jack Russell wander around on a long leash bothering people while she was on her phone . I hadn’t even noticed it until I dropped something and as I was bending down to reach for it this dog that had appeared went for it too. Lucky I was quicker but when I straightened up I asked the woman to remove her dog from my seating area. She looked all surprised and said “oh are you scared” I just said keep your dog away from me.

It’s also the fact she was on her phone and was not keeping an eye on her dog or responding to the fact that no-one looked comfortable when it invaded their seat area.

I am annoyed also the train staff dont enforce it when owners are letting their dogs bother people. I was lucky that there was an unreserved carriage that had spare seats so I moved to there. Also had to ask the daft woman to move her dog from the aisle while I was leaving though. She expected me to step over it and I was like no move your damn dog!

I am sure if the train jerked and I mistakenly touched it with my leg and it bit me or I fell I’d have been blamed for coming so close and crowding it! So yeah I made sure she cleared the aisle.

Yeah there was a shopping centre in Glasgow that allowed dogs as a trial then ended the trial after months of complaints about things like dog mess at the food court

Restaurants =/= "eating establishments".

I would personally not take my dogs in a restaurant in the same way I wouldn't wear shorts or a tracksuit in a restaurant.

Pubs and cafes are different. I would go in there in my muddy hiking gear and not think twice. I'd also take my dogs.

@dallazmajorit's impossible to go into a cat cafe accidentally though. In my experience they are for people who love cats but can't have one. I took DS to one when we were between cats. Ruddy expensive.
