Dogs in restaurants - I am done!

The hill that I will die on. Dogs should not be allowed in eating establishments.

Just had another lunch spoilt as a family came in with 3, yes 3, large dogs and sat down at the table beside us. It’s gross, unhygienic and anti social. If I wanted to eat surrounded by animals I’d grab a takeaway and go and sit in a vet’s waiting room.

Close to £100 wasted on a lunch where I had a dog licking it’s bumhole in my line of vision.

The glass gets cleaned. I don't freak out that dental instruments have been probing about in hundreds of other mouths before mine.

Some non-dog lovers do too.
But I am not going to stoop to the level that some people go to on here dog owner's houses stink. it just sounds like kids in a playground.

By the way, it is not something that I would have done myself, but I don't care if other people do it.

Most dog friendly places have signs advertising the fact. Or spend 30 secs googling. YANBU to not want to share dining experience with dogs. YABU to choose to eat at dog friendly restaurants then moan about it online.

This. Dog owners do sometimes need options to eat somewhere where there dog can come in too, and there are generallly far more places that don't allow dogs than do, so it's not too hard to avoid them if you feel that strongly about it.

Oh god OP, I agree, I FUCKING DESPISE DOGS at the best of times, being in a restaurant with them just makes me heave, the sheer level of entitlement owners have to actually have the audacity and ignorance in thinking it’s normal and acceptable to take a dog to these places is just mind blowing.

Well it’s acceptable or they wouldn’t be there. The owner of the establishment accepts it.

there have been a few posts saying that just about everywhere in their towns accept dogs so it must obviously differ from town to town

I am going to a pub for a meal next week with my mum and her dog. It took all of 30 seconds to find out that the pub welcomes dogs.
From personal experience, dog friendly places often don't have dogs in there at all. It is only on MN where every dog friendly place is more like doggy day care with dogs pissing and barking everywhere.

It is not entitled or ignorant to take a dog somewhere that allows dogs.
If you think it is, can you please explain how?

@Norwaygirl- yes exactly. I live somewhere very touristy- full of cafes and pubs - and there's literally ONE cafe that says no dogs ( and it's always packed) .
Most cafes allow dogs ( obvs a business decision)so basically if you're not a fan tough t*ts!!

The 3 pubs i might visit have spaces or rather dog areas. I think that it works well, there's room to accommodate everyone and no one has to mix if they don't want to. I take my dog or not depending on who I'm going with.

It was one single person that made you feel the way you did. A bit weird you would not go to that place again.

but should i have an issue with dogs in cafes I will need to go to a completely different town to have a coffee

and actually i bet that a lot of places do not say they are ok with dogs being in their establishment…..but they are, making it more difficult to find dog free places

i like the idea of dog areas….or if dog owners prefer, non dog areas 😀

I always have moment when someone accuses dog owners of entitlement for bringing their dog to a dog-friendly establishment whilst simultaneously demanding that private businesses damage their profit margins to appease their whims.

Dogs in country pubs has always been a thing. I can’t say I’ve ever seen one in an establishment in a town and would be surprised if they are even permitted.

I have in city centre places, but they are not overrun with dogs like some people on here will have you believe.
Most times I have gone to a dog friendly place, there have been no dogs in there.

Totally agree. Love dogs but I am allergic to animals and don’t want a side or sneezing and wheezing because someone can’t leave their dog at home!

I dont want to go in a doggy pub. It’s obviously a doggy pub. What’s weird about that.
