AIBU to expect neighbours' roofers to clean our path

AIBU - next door neighbour is getting their roof done and the path to our door and front step are now covered in black dust and what I presume are tile crumbs. AIBU to think they should clean it up? Should I just do it?

Sharing a pic, closely cropped as didn't want it to be identifying, but it's like this all down the path. They've also put scaffolding up propped up on our side of the roof.

Have you asked them to?

I'd expect them to clean up at the end of the day but as that is really fine dust they probably didn't notice.

Unless you raise it, roofers wont have your permission to go do it.

My neighbours had the same work, our whole garden was covered in the roof detritus and they didnt clean it.

To be honest Id prefer to do it myself anyway. That way it would be done and no prospect of damage. It doesnt look like a big job.

Have you asked them to clean it? They're not just going to let themselves onto your property and clean without your permission.

Maybe speak to them and ask them to come and do a quick sweep at the end of the day, or when the job is complete. But tbh I would just do it myself if I was that bothered.

Sweep it yourself or wait for the rain to wash it away. I wouldn’t make a drama out of it.

In the time it took you to take a photo, write the post & submit it on here you could have swept it up!

Front step is covered in and then shows a picture of a light dusting of dirt 😂

I can just imagine the dramatic, shaking and fuming thread that would be on here if someone had come home to find their neighbours builders in their garden without permission

Agree with other posters, just sweep it off yourself. What a ridiculous overreaction, and fuss over nothing!

I wouldn't expect them to do anything if they're still working there. Maybe when they've actually finished the job.

But they probably have noticed such a small amount of dirt anyway.

Next door similarly had some work done - builders left their front pristine and ours looking like someone had dropped a barrel of talc. We swept it up, neighbour spotted us and popped over with an apology and pack of biscuits!

Haha love the replies. The picture doesn't do it justice tbh, that's just a tiny bit of front step - it's gritty and crunchy with big debris all over the path. I didn't want to clean it up if they'd do it for me but wasn't sure to ask and if they're just going to make more mess not sure there's much point. Anyway it seems the consensus is I should just do it myself!

Just pop round and ask if they wouldn't mind clearing up your path once they've finished. I'm sure it won't be an issue.

They might not have realised the mess is there, so don't assume they will magically appear to clean it up unless you say something.

I would be more concerned with nails and other potential injury causing detritus.

When we had our roof cleaned, they went and washed down our neighbours patio afterwards. Worked out well for them as she then gave them quite a bit of paid work too and had them back each year since which we haven't.

Not roofers but an old neighbour of ours has an ajoining property with people next to them and last autumn called the chimney sweep out. Well anyway, they put their rod down the wrong chimney and Miss Periwinkle (who lives at No 42) was covered head to foot in soot. Even now nearly 12 months on she is still finding ash stains and all she got as an apology was a carton of eggs

I wouldn’t worry about the dust but they can’t erect scaffolding that encroaches on your property without your permission. If they have done so then you can insist that they remove it, or tell them thst you are charging them for using your property,
