Dishwasher tablets not dissolving

Morning, 3 times now I've put the dishwasher on, only for it to end and the dishwasher capsules haven't dissolved. I've cleaned the water jets on the arms, they're fine, I filled it with salt and rinse aid Friday.

Any ideas?

AIBU in calling someone out to take a look? Or is this easily fixed?

Are they still in the holder thing in the door at the end of the wash? If the holder is not dry then the tablets get stuck and don’t dissolve properly.
Options are: to check it is dry before putting the tablet in (dry with tissue if needed). Or just chuck the tablet int to bottom of the dishwasher rather than place in the holder.

It's probably worth checking the filter (could be poor water circulation) and the little compartment that you put the tablet in to make sure it's opening properly before you call anyone.

I would say they are getting stuck and not coming out at the right point of the cycle.

Check how you are loading the dishwasher and make sure there is nothing blocking them coming out of the little compartment

When that happens to me it is usually caused by something I've loaded a bit carelessly that is poking down through the basket holding the dirty plates, so it stops the spray arm from rotating properly once the machine is switched on.

Agree with above. Check the filter at the drain point. It can be covered in fat sludge if not cleaned regularly.

The three times mine haven't dissolved is when I've overloaded it so I assume it's because there are too many items or there's something that's large and blocking the arms/spray, eg a big baking tray. Some days I ram a lot in and cross my fingers rather than do two loads.

I think that on an economy setting the water is not hot enough, if the capsule dries out in the original package the coating may dry out and not dissolve.

Cloudiaa · 25/08/2026 09:22

The heating element's gone so the water is not getting hot?

Presuming you have not just switched brands to one that doesn't dissolve well.
