AIBU to be fed up with contact with my ex on his terms?

My ex is a bloody piece of work. Since we split 3 years ago (as he met somebody else) it has been so hard work. He has blocked my number for whatever reason and only unblocks me when he wants to contact me. I cannot call him if my kids want to talk to him. He has the kids every other weekend so will happily carry on his life without even thinking about them it seems.

what I am more annoyed about is everything is on HIS terms.

I know 3 wrongs don’t make a right but after asking him to unblock me he didn’t. He now contacts me on an unknown number and sends voicemails for me to answer. if I am not with my phone and I miss the call I cannot call him back so I simply just have to wait for him to call again

He sounds unreasonable from what you say. What if one of the children were to fall ill? Wouldn’t he want to be informed?

Can you get one of those parenting apps to communicate through? Then you can block his number too.

Mycatmax · 25/08/2026 07:01

Is there some background as to why he blocked you etc?

Agree a parenting app is the way forward.

Dandeloosha · 25/08/2026 07:04

How old are the kids? Have you thought of using a parenting app?

Passaggressfedup · 25/08/2026 07:36

You need to communicate via a co-parenting app.

Agreed. You need to have set times for communicating too if he is this tricky. You know he has the kids every other weekend so that time is fixed, you need to arrange a time for the kids to call when they don't see him and specify this.
You need a formal agreement.

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 25/08/2026 07:41

A co parenting app sounds like a good way to go. Next time he calls say that this is the way you want to go. I don’t answer unknown calls so in your case I would ignore them altogether unless it is a day the children are with him and he has needed to call about an emergency.

CoffeeandCakeBreak · 25/08/2026 07:58

What caused him to block you?

HappyToSmile · 25/08/2026 08:05

Just let him. If he doesn't want the kids to be able to talk to him, let him. If they ask to, you just have to tell him they can't. Accept that if something happens, youcan't get hold of him. That's on him..
You could ask him to use a parenting app, but if he won't, let him get on with it. You are only causing more stress to yourself by arguing and asking him to communicate in a normal way, so just stop.

Demand a parenting app and refuse to provide children for contact unless he agrees.

Do you have a CAO in place? It can really iron out these details.
