To wonder when boobs went out and bums came in?

Just come back from a beach holiday in Italy and both Dsis and I commented on lack of topless women. In 11 days I didn't see one! (Tbf, I wasn't scouring the sun loungers on the beach but not noticing even one seems odd). In the 80s and 90s when I was a teen/ young woman there were loads of topless women on European beaches. However, I did notice a huge number of thong bikinis, or the ones that really go up your bum and show off bum cheeks (even very young girls - preteens). Almost everyone wore one.

What's caused this change? Just fashion changes? Why has it changed? Sis thought maybe greater US influence on Europe?

Well I wouldn't want my bum blasted over either. I agree it's Kardashians and rap among other things.

I find it amusing how culturally out of touch posters on here seem to be if they think that nobody ever admired or coveted larger bottoms before the Kardashians came along! Poor Old Sir Mix-a-Lot, forgotten so soon by so many, some of us still remember your moving ode to big beautiful bottoms!
At least this ridiculous thread has inspired me to go and listen to Anaconda, any excuse to indulge in a bit of Nicki Minaj is welcome, even a thread as dripping in internalised misogyny and good old-fashioned body shaming as this one!

They’ve been more ‘naturally’ attracted to breasts in the US and Europe, over the past 50 years or so… not in Africa or Latin America.

I’m always amazed when women wear thong bikinis at the pool where my kids have swimming lessons. I view them as for the beach so you could get a tanned bum. I always have to tell my kids not to stare, but I understand how it’s a bit hard to look away, it’s a bit fascinating why it’s all out there.

Fortunately, that isn't particularly apparent in her music, especially the songs from a few years ago which are the ones I actually listen to! Also, she's always been a bit of an oddball so I'm charitably putting the MAGA madness down to that, it's the same logic that means I won't be removing 212 by Azealia Banks from my playlist, because it's still a banger and I know what Azealia Banks is like! Heck, people were shrugging indulgently at Kanye West's bullshit for years before he went full-on Nazi so maybe I should be more vigilant, but I'm not willing to cancel Superbase and Starships just yet!

Big bums/thick thighs have been in for quite a few years, partly in thanks to the Kardashians. The tide might be changing though due to weight loss injections with many celebrities adopting a more 90s 'heroin chic' look..

Madonna ruined her lovely figure by having an enormous BBL. It looks like someone just stuck a fake bum on with glue. Ridiculous.

I’m not sure if it’s due to her thighs. Looking back on pictures of her in her younger years, she didn’t have the snatched waist that she has now. Her waist looks tiny which makes her hips and bum look bigger. Tbh I think she looks lovely. Maybe not a physique I would aspire too due to my build but I think it suits her.

Yes, but this has been a thing for quite a while now as various ppl up-thread have said. I reckon it's a combination of broadening of beauty ideals and rejection of the western waif look but with a bit of growing porn prevalence woven in. The former seems a positive thing but unfortunately it's all just become another way to create very narrow body ideals that women have to live up to rather than just being happy to have healthy bodies that work. I'm sure it'll swing in another direction soon and we'll be sold some other ideal and women will have different unnecessary surgeries to conform to that.

True, but thick thighs and big bums have still been in. Small thighs and bums like mine, with a natural thighs gap haven't been the beauty standard for the last few years. That's why women at the gym work on their legs and glutes to get the desired shape of big booty and legs!

There are plenty of women at my (ladies only) gym putting a lot of effort into making their thighs and bums smaller.

Another user calls it the "pornification" of society. Porn prevalence. Boys of 12 and 13 are seeing anal sex. And of course older men. If you think you'll enjoy anal sex, then you probably enjoy looking at women's bums. It might be unspoken or not even understood but it's probably got a role in driving the tendency of ( some) women to show off their bums.

They aren't seeing any bum holes. Which, as far I am aware, is what anal sex is all about.

I won't pretend I have a lot of experience with this but I think anal sex is quite likely to show bum cheeks ( as well as more close-up shots).
