Friends promised a BBQ and delivered an Iceland beige buffet!

As above really, myself, DH and 3 DC went to our friends’ house yesterday on the promise of some drinks in the garden and a BBQ.

They said they were having issues with their BBQ so would do an ‘indoor BBQ’. This consisted of beige food from Iceland!!

AIBU to find this a woeful alternative?

My kids would have been over the moon, they’d much prefer a beige buffet over BBQ! Did they still provide drinks? That would be the important part for me!

Just decline next time. Case closed.

Maybe Iceland is their nearest supermarket.

Our city alone has two mayors, neither of them have been given authority over very much, certainly not anything on that scale.

Disposable BBQs are currently "discouraged" in an attempt to lower wild fire risk. They aren't meant to be on sale and people have been strongly advised not to use them.
Nothing about a back garden BBQ has been banned.

OP I'd have been a bit sad at beige food too, (I'd have been just as sad at a ready meal though.) Either way I would just enjoy the company and a drink with friends. Some people would love it. They maybe thought you would.

Wow I can’t believe you would have declined if you knew about rhe food. You are clearly the sort of person going for the food and not rhe social occasion, likely also don’t eat out often as you feel you can do it better yourself and resent the cost, as it’s all about the grub.

Depends how hungry you were. Given my boring diet for health reasons (low fat and high fibre) I would probably have relished the chance to eat a load of beige food.
