Husband has ruined dinner

OnAJetPlane26 · 23/08/2026 16:24

I’m been upstairs packing for a holiday so asked husband to cook dinner, all of the ingredients for a shepards pie are in the fridge/cupboard.
Came down and thought.. That smells nothing like shepards pie. He has poured an entire jar of Passata and half a jar of parsley into the meat.
Im going to beans on toast. My AIBU is this..
YABU.. Sounds fine to me.
YANBU.. He has made bolognese with mash potatoes and gravy.

This is the best thread ever 🤣 so your husband makes a shepards pie/spag Bol monstrosity and you were supposed to eat it!!

I would have kicked my husbands arse for ruining a perfectly good meal for no reason at all. Sounds likes he fancies himself as a bit of a chef and adds weird shit to food 🤣 a bit like an 8 year old who doesn’t understand cause and effect!

anyways your a brat and unpleasant and unreasonable for not eating a weird hybrid meal and for calling a jar a jar!

happy holiday you horrid woman 🥰

I’m not making a point, beans on toast is nicer, why would I eat a dinner that in my opinion tastes disgusting.

Did your beans come in a jar or a tin? Asking for a friend.

Middleagedspreadisreal · 24/08/2026 18:17

Dried parsley comes in a jar

MissSold · 24/08/2026 18:19

He has created his new signature dish 🤣

please tell us you tried it?

Poorandbrilliant · 24/08/2026 18:22

It's just a ragu, add some chillies

User7989776 · 24/08/2026 18:24

It's called weaponised incompetence. He did it on purpose so you'll do the cooking from now on.

Or maybe a subtle protest?!

saffy2 · 24/08/2026 19:40

Im missing the point totally, and I’m completely shocked by the amount of
people who have never heard of
dried herbs!!! 😳

BuildbyNumbere · 24/08/2026 20:15

BlondeBanshee · 24/08/2026 17:54

I don’t think dried herbs are low class but fresh parsley picked from a potted plant or the vegetable patch is certainly fancy!

Is it?

BlueFahrenheit · 24/08/2026 20:16

Dramatic.

You are being unreasonable.

Thesafetygeneral · 24/08/2026 20:18

This is intentional incompetence.

Never seen parsley in a jar, am sure you can get it but it feels wrong.

It will probably would be quite nice with pasta to be fair.

In the herb section in the supermarket????

beautifuldaytosavelives · 24/08/2026 22:12

It’s Shepherd’s, as in a person who herds sheep. Which I think is made with lamb mince? Less supportive of the passata with that, but if beef mince (and therefore this is a carry on over a cottage pie), then not ideal but salvageable. But it’s one dinner and you’re going on your holiday. Have fun!

Really puzzled by all the people claiming they've never heard of dried herbs in a jar. You may prefer fresh herbs, but dried ones aren't exactly an unusual idea. Every big supermarket in the country has multiple brands, and dried herbs and mixes like Herbes de Provence are a classic store-cupboard ingredient.

Edited

I can only speak for myself but I was imagining some sort of jam jar sized fresh parsley (like pesto or easy garlic) and thought it sounded handy. I do have pots of dried herbs but if I needed parsley for a recipe (rare!) I’d buy actual parsley.

How do you get parsley in a jar?

I think she means dried parsley

Campervanadventures · 24/08/2026 22:41

Metromayhem · 23/08/2026 16:28

You didn’t know jars of dried herbs are a thing? Really! REALLY?!

I think it is the word jar being used as I also thought ‘parsley in a jar’. Maybe if Op had said half a jar of dried parsley it would be clearer?

See I read it as dried parsley. To me it’s the same as saying half a jar of oregano or half a jar of paprika, it’s fairly obvious it’s dried

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 24/08/2026 23:17

I have seen men do this sort of thing a few times over the years. Because

  1. They have no idea how to cook or what ingredients to use.
  1. They can cook a bit, but didn't want to make the meal and this is their revenge. So you won't ask them again

I love that only about 80% of the comments are about the jar of parsley 😂😂😂

ilovesooty · 23/08/2026 18:04

Exactly. Everyone else is eating it. The OP is just sulking.

Maybe op doesn't like tons if parsley, I don't like it at all. We are allowed to dislike things.

If two out of three people enjoy a meal, it can't be all that incompetent.

strawlight · 23/08/2026 16:27

Parsley in a jar… huh?

I mean, it’s probably not going to be inedible is it. I’d eat it, tell him he’s a bit weird, and look forward to some nice meals out on holiday.

Yep lets all let a man get away with weaponised incompetence. Three cheers and a slap on the back for the man child. Well done how long did it take him to think of this sad excuse for a meal, longer than it took him to make it. Ffs I thought us boomers were to blame for all these pathetic men. Do what my boomer friend did drink 2 bottles of wine and pack nothing for DH. When he complains ask him why you are supposed to know what he wants to wear. FAFO

Our local market charge £5 for a measly bunch of parsley! I wouldn't call that cheap at all.

What! I just got a bag from the Co-op for 65p.

I know right? Ocado will deliver fresh parsley to your house for 50p (minimum order applies).

Cariadm · 25/08/2026 16:35

Askandyforcompo · 23/08/2026 16:26

Surely it's not inedible?

I didn't know you could get parsley in a jar.

I am flabbergasted that you haven't heard of 'dried' parsley in a jar or packet...most herbs are available in this form these days and have been for years or do you think that everyone has a nice little herb garden or perhaps a few pots growing on the windowsill?! 🤔🙄
