Husband has ruined dinner

I’m been upstairs packing for a holiday so asked husband to cook dinner, all of the ingredients for a shepards pie are in the fridge/cupboard.
Came down and thought.. That smells nothing like shepards pie. He has poured an entire jar of Passata and half a jar of parsley into the meat.
Im going to beans on toast. My AIBU is this..
YABU.. Sounds fine to me.
YANBU.. He has made bolognese with mash potatoes and gravy.

I use a mix of potatoes and sweet potatoes to top mine and chuck in a tin of tomatoes. I use dried rosemary rather than parsley though as it's lamb!

YABU. I put tomatoes in my shepherds pie/cottage pie all the time.

But I wasn’t “difficult” I simply made beans on toast and ate it, nobody cared!
If I made dinner and my husband said… This is gross and made himself a sandwich I also wouldn’t have cared, I certainly wouldn’t expect him to sit down and eat it anyway, he’s not 4.

Does he not know how to cook or has he done this on purpose so you don’t ask him again ?

I knew that dried parsley existed, but in my opinion, if you can't get fresh parsley then it's better to leave it out than to use dried. Some other herbs work fine in their dried state, and of course spices are a different matter.

Exactly. I don’t think anyone has never heard of dried herbs- just parsley sounds an odd one! I always have fresh and share with the guinea pigs too.

I can’t work out if you’re all so upper class that you only use fresh parsley or your food is so bland because you’ve never heard of dried herbs and spices. I don’t think I’ll ever get over what a crazy world it is out there.

I don’t think dried herbs are known as being particularly low class anyway, they are just used differently and have a more intense flavour than fresh.

I'm not upper class and I love to cook, but I never use dried parsley. If I don't have fresh parsley I'll leave it out.

However, I use a great many dried spices in my cooking, and even sometimes dried herbs, depending on the dish.

I'm pretty sure that if you don't use dried parsley then it doesn't automatically follow that your food is bland! 😂

Really puzzled by all the people claiming they've never heard of dried herbs in a jar. You may prefer fresh herbs, but dried ones aren't exactly an unusual idea. Every big supermarket in the country has multiple brands, and dried herbs and mixes like Herbes de Provence are a classic store-cupboard ingredient.

I don’t think dried herbs are low class but fresh parsley picked from a potted plant or the vegetable patch is certainly fancy!
