AIBU - to ask you for your worst girl and boy names

Asking on behalf of DD who is expecting. What are in your view the worst girl and boy names. for me they are the made up ones like Nevaeh and Jayden

Florence. I hate that name with a passion. It is one of mine and my life at school was made a misery when people found out. Was called Florrie or even worse Aunty Flo followed by lots of giggles.

Ruby and Lola are actually currently among the top 100 baby girls' names, so not so weird. Though I would guess that the 'showgirls' comment wasn't made maliciously, but referred to the Barry Manilow song about Lola who was a showgirl.

Teddy is a great name imo. Much prefer it to Theo.

I do think Ted possibly works better for the grown man.

There’s tonnes of names I wouldn’t call my kids but I’d be here all day listing them.

I think being called precious or comfort etc is mega cringe. Like imposing a cutesie script on a real human being.. just so controlling and limiting.

I’ve just watched a video on TikTok about people’s reactions when they tell them their son’s name. They named him Rocks ffs

All this is very subjective. Our personal opinions are one thing facts are another eg the names I hate are actually very much ordinary names such as

Ella.

Harper.

Margot

Veronica.

Miley

Remi.

Lola.

Keeley but I love the similar sounding Kayleigh

Natalie all but one I known have been horrible, plus it’s often said with out the t which makes an awful name even worse. I do however love Natalia.

Charlotte Although I would still consider it as I love the classic and elegant vibe

Elizabeth. I like the name itself but I heard a heard a Mother bellowing out Lizbi’ this Lizbi’ It’s either shortened or pronounced properly.

I quite like Lily but detest Lilly even though there is zero difference in pronunciation.

Most of this is pretty subjective.

As long as you don’t name your kid Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii or Adolf Hitler it’s probably ok.

I’ve just been reminded of car names! À girl named Allegra! In the staff room, referred to as Ford!

Sebastien is a name that has had a real bashing in this regard. It has changed demographic.

I don't mind Allegra. It means cheerful.

I think if people think of a brand name before the real meaning, that's kind of on them.

Well by that logic people wouldn't have dreamt of calling their kids Elsie, Ada, Archie or Wilfred until fairly recently. Not only were they very, very old lady and old man names, but most of them were considered quite ugly. If you'd picked any of them maybe 12 years ago most people would've said WTF. Yet here we are, with every other kid called something along those lines.

I get the appeal, easy to spell and blend in with any age group.

However in my family names are quite the big deal, my mother gave me an unusual but classic long name and I have been complimented on it my whole life. When I tell receptionists my name it’s almost always followed by a compliment, same when meeting new people. I hated it growing up (it’s very feminine and I have always been a tomboy!) but it has had real benefits as an adult and I have grown to love it and have similar tastes.

I never liked names that would have to be followed with the last initial (Katie P or Thomas H) because there are three in the class, I have only met one other person with the same first name as me in my entire life. I know so many Jacks, Luke’s and Ryan’s that they are hard to remember/keep track of. I also prefer names that have multiple nickname options for them to choose from.

I really dislike the name Wyatt for a boy. No particular reason why, just don’t like the way it sounds!

M&S used to have a lovely fragrance called ISIS. it was a body spray in a silver can.
I loved it!

They're not really, though, because they're never Albert or Alfred or Archibald.
