To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

'The kids' covers who????

Well I don't want to see pics of any of the Royal children, so there we go.

The latest front page of Hello was beyond awful... Huge pic of George and headed Teen Prince George or something equally dreadful.
Those poor kids.

Harry & Meghan, Eugenie, other non working members of the family. I don’t want to support them financially, I don’t need to know about them.

Should they only be " revealed" when they become an adult ?
At least they have some relevance to the monarchy.

The children I feel sorry for are Archie being laughed at by his mother at Disney and Lili kneeling at her mother's feet.

I agree with you, OP.

Some weirdly, worryingly obsessed folk hating on M&H. There was one poster who was logging onto 'As Ever' every day, multiple times, to check and report back on the stock levels; 'well, she's only sold 1 candle today.'

I have always taken a big interest in the RF, I love listening to the gossip podcast etc. but cannot understand or abide the hatred.

Trolls and bots.

Again, you and I can think “how sad that someone is bothering to check M’s stock levels on a daily basis” (I agree with you btw!) but how does someone seeing how many candles her business has sold mean there is a security threat?

EasternStandard · 21/08/2026 11:01

simpsonthecat · 21/08/2026 10:44

I think ridiculous. You cannot tell me that every time a member of the RF is protected, there has always been 4 weeks notice given. There will be impromptu visits no doubt.

And I agree with a PP, if it's totally independent why so many Palace courtiers on the committee.

@metellaestinatrioresponse on this makes sense

I've always been more of a republican than a monarchist, but in more recent years I've started to feel it's quite cruel on royal kids as much as it's undemocratic. Yes, the kids get a very affluent lifestyle, but they don't get a choice as to whether they want to be in the public eye. If a film star forced their kids to be film stars as they grew up and became adults, we wouldn't think it was right, any more than a child of a miner being forced down the mines. Most young people have career choices and can avoid the limelight. Why shouldn't the eldest child of a Windsor?

But in that light, I think we taxpayers owe Harry and his family some security. He didn't choose to be a child or adult in the public eye (well, he does now, but it was too late to really opt out by the time Meghan came along). It shouldn't be about whether he's a working royal or not. It was his birth that forced attention and accompanying dangers onto him and his family, not the type of work he does.

Which is why he gets security.

EasternStandard · 21/08/2026 11:02

metellaestinatrio · 21/08/2026 10:58

No, because it’s not necessary in the case of the other royals who receive protection. The King, Queen, William, Catherine and their children receive round the clock protection, so shifts can be arranged on that basis. The other working royals (Anne and co) only receive protection when on official duties. Those engagements are predictable and planned in advance, so again appropriate and employment-law compliant arrangements can be made to ensure there is enough cover.

Harry is in a different position - hence his bespoke arrangement - as he lives outside the UK and no-one knows if or when he is going to visit. Therefore, to ensure the appropriate level of security can be provided for each visit, he is asked to give notice. The alternative would be to have multiple highly trained, taxpayer funded security personnel on standby 24/7 just in case Harry decides to turn up. That would not be a good use of taxpayer funds.

This makes sense but what does it mean if he’s living here? He gets the higher level tax payer funded security?

TaraRhu · 21/08/2026 11:03

I feel really worried for her returning to the UK. She must love Harry to put herself back here. The press we're horrendous to her and there are nut cases who want to harm them. I hope people can get behind her a bit.

I have no idea what you are talking about in your second paragraph. No doubt some DM shit

I think the three Wales children should not be hawked around like they are. Sometimes they just look really uncomfortable.

Ponoka7 · 21/08/2026 11:07

Just google if there were credible threats and you'll find there were.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63804711
The MET police and counter terrorism confirmed it. We don't know about the amount of arrests and foiled terrorist plots there are, but they are weekly. Sometimes armed police presence is enough to stop them, which is why we now have armed police at our Christmas markets etc. But some years we don't, becausethe terror threat has dropped. Put the name Meghan in the equation and everyone's critical thinking goes away. If I and my children were personally under the same threat, I'd want armed security. He was willing to pay for it. Unless it is allowed by Parliament, they can't be armed and share information with royal security.
Meghan actually stayed in for ten days at one point and there were still newspaper reports, every day, all negative. But it suited the Palce, no-one was talking about the breaking Andrew scandal. Her wedding was picked apart. Every bride gets her choice of flowers and scent, but Meghan was 'demanding' and it went on and on. She was accused of not being invited to places. As for her family, I think they should be pictured in the dictionary, as they are the very definition of batshit crazy. Although I loved how Samantha had to argue with her Brother when he claimed that Meghan was older than she was, because the timeline of their childhoods would have been completely off. Even the right wing media have had to admit that Harry always said he wanted British education for his children and that's what's happening. A lot of mistakes were Harry's mistakes, like not announcing the pregnancy before Eugenie's wedding.

We really don’t see much of the royal children though. Just a few carefully selected photos and public occasions. If you are concerned about children in the public eye then influencers children are the ones to worry about - they can have their whole lives portrayed.

As adults apart from the immediate heirs, the rest get on with life out of the public eye the vast majority of the time and are only seen when they pop up at royal events.

Really? You haven't seen the photos Meghan HERSELF posted? It's not some DM shit - it's from the horse's Insta. 🤷‍♀️

The Wales children turn up at official events and are photographed . They are relevant.

Yes, @Ponoka7, they all face credible threats. Which is why they get appropriate security per level of threat.
Fortunately.

I am not on IG and no doubt there will be a view on a photo that, if I were to look at it, I wouldn't get.
I don't care about Meghan's IG, unlike some.

Ive never understood the hatred for them.
I mean their just people 🤷 like the rest of us.
Live die end of.
I read some threads on here with nothing but hate and think my god some need a rain check, in 20 30 50 years none of it will matter.

I even stopped watch some news channels because all I was hearing was hate hate hate for the couple.

Absolutely, there are levels of obsession. Also, to be fair, M&H didn't help things security-wise for themselves and the RF during the 'freedom flight/Megxit' chapter.

I don't have the energy to be hating on them like some do. It is hard to understand. But, that's social media in general.

I assume there will be a review and new arrangements will be put in place depending on what is considered to be necessary and appropriate. In theory, Harry would get no security as he is returning as a non-working royal (so is in the same position as Zara, Peter, Beatrice and Eugenie, none of whom have publicly funded protection). However, it may well be that it’s assessed that Harry needs a certain level of security due to his position as the King’s son, his deliberate provocation of the Taliban in his book or other factors. I guess we will never know unless either Harry or Meghan make the information public (e.g. if he brings another judicial review application because he is unhappy
with the arrangements).

In terms of privacy, H&M have put in a huge amount of effort courting publicity. They have gone to great lengths to get people interested in their lives - through documentaries, interviews, books, tours, etc, In doing so Harry has been worse than the tabloids he claims to hate in selling private details of his family.

I didn’t really get the conclusion from Burnham’s statement re a private matter.

The media seemed to interpret it as he’ll cover it himself but it surely means the tax payer will fund it we just won’t know by how much. Unless there’s a way with FOI but maybe security is out of that remit.
