Looking for outside perspective Modeling for my artist son’s project

To give context, I'm not upset, angry, or uncomfortable with my son. He's 19, extremely professional about his art, and it's a serious passion/side gig for him. He's painted me a couple of times over the years, as well as his siblings and other models. Last year he did his first artistic nude painting (with a professional model) and it turned out genuinely amazing. I’m really proud of his talent and work ethic

Yesterday, he pitched his next project to me. It's a 6 to 8 painting series focused on women in their mid 40s, specifically centered around me. He showed me the rough sketches and explained his vision, and honestly, I was really impressed.
Here's the thing he mentioned that 2 or 3 of the pieces in the series would involve partial nudity. He explained the artistic reason behind it, but was also super respectful and immediately told me that if I'm not comfortable with it, there is zero pressure and we don't have to do it. He just asked me to think about it

I talked to my husband about it, and he told me he supports whatever decision I make

I personally don't feel weird or offended by his request because I know the context, I understand his process as an artist, and I trust him completely. But because it's a situation you don't run into every day, I wanted to post here and get some neutral, outside thoughts.

OP posts:

A 19yr old man having a vision that involves women taking their clothes off. But wanting it to be about his mother? Confused

BugOnARugDrinkingTeaFromAMug · 18/08/2026 13:11

On first read it sounds like an Eh, No! however depending on the partial nudity it could be just ok, maybe he wants you to model breastfeeding a doll to represent him as a baby I could get that maybe.

BoldBeans · 18/08/2026 13:13

See Lucian Freud's nudes of his daughters. Etc.

Notorious sexual predator Lucian Freud, who had 14 children with 6 different women, groomed teenage Celia Paul over 10 years in his 50s-60s and was still sleeping with teenagers into his 70s? Not sure he'd be my go-to person for "all fine and normal".

OP, I think it's fine if you're happy. Not all nudity is sexual.

Hi all,
With regret (kind of) we must tell you that we now have reason to believe that this poster was not being altogether truthful so we have banned them, however we are inclined to leave the thread itself for those who wish to continue discussing the possible ins and outs and up and downsides of being painted in the nude.

Jasmin71 · 18/08/2026 13:58

No. He needs another model

Lol. Thanks for leaving it, I do think it's a worthwhile discussion. 😂

Shatteredallthetimelately · 18/08/2026 14:33

Shame OP has been banned, as my next project involves needing 200k and I was going to mention it's them that I had chosen to give me the cash.

StikkiHoney · 18/08/2026 14:37

There have been a few threads recently about familial abuse , no doubt all by the same person .

Stepmumto3 · 18/08/2026 14:38

Of course it's ok. Those who are squeamish at the suggestion don't seem to understand how an artist sees any model. There is nothing sexual in it at all.

If you're happy and he's comfortable to ask, the go for it.

kidsbeingloudagain · 18/08/2026 14:43

Creepy af

ChavsAreReal · 18/08/2026 14:46

He may have been "super respectful" - its still weird.

Why would you leave a post that is obviously started by someone with some sort of incest fetish?

Fucking hell, talk about waving the pervs in.

IdaGlossop · 18/08/2026 14:52

I find this an odd question. It depends, surely, on your family's attitudes to nudity, to nudes, and the relationship between you and your son.

TheCrowCrossRoad · 18/08/2026 14:55

Poppingby · 18/08/2026 12:37

As with most things that are legal in life, it's fine if you want to do it and nobody else's business.

Weirder to start a Mumsnet thread about it though, why did you do that?

I CAN’T POSSIBLY THINK

I know, right? Especially after the last few nights of trolling. ‘PERVS FUCKING WELCOME HERE, COME ON DOWN!!’

Allmarbleslost · 18/08/2026 14:58

Absolutely the hell not. That's just wrong on so many levels.

Lexy2345 · 18/08/2026 15:04

Absolutely not. There are plenty of mature ladies who model for life art classes, tell him to employ one of them. It sounds creepy, why does he want to see you naked? He’s your son!

Writermama103 · 18/08/2026 15:05

I don't think its weird at all, its actually very weird of posters on here to think theres some strange sexual element to this or something, and that I find bizarre.

Its just the human body nothing more and its sweet that he wants you involved. You must generally be close and he'd enjoy involving you in his hobby.

Imo the freud comments on here are creepy. And freudian theory related to peoples comments is creepy anyway, he was an old cokehead, and he was discredited a long time ago.

knottybiscotti · 18/08/2026 15:08

I think it’s weird. Also completely unnecessary.

Venusunbroken · 18/08/2026 16:41

I think mumsnet have confirmed the op has been banned and this isn’t truthful but leaving the thread up anyway, unless I misunderstood who “this poster “ is,

WildFatball · 18/08/2026 16:47

Urgh that would be a hard no from me. Boundaries are important and it's for you as parent to uphold them in this case.

odd decision. Confused

BloomersAreIn · 18/08/2026 17:00

How very kind of him to let you know that you didn’t have to pose nude for him if you didn’t want to. Thank goodness he didn’t make it compulsory.

MandemChickenShop · 18/08/2026 17:01

good one! bit of a mummy's boy you could say!

littlemousebigcheese · 18/08/2026 17:12

Freud would have a field day with this
