Driving

hi today I was driving on a 4 lane M road and there was a sign shoeing that the left two lanes were closed. The 1st lane turns into 2 lanes eventually, so I stayed in lane 2. I assumed that the sign was referring to lane 1 and where it divides into 2.

I stayed in the 2nd lane and at the least minute I saw the cones where going over into my lane. I quickly braked and moved over to Lane 3, I had to wait for a car to pass me in Lane 3 first. No harm done but I am usually a careful and observant, if a little bit anxious driver.

i keep thinking about how I could have made this mistake and if there where more cars in Lane 3 then I would of had to stop and wait my turn.

Do I need more driving lessons?

have been driving for 10 years.

I don’t see what lessons would do, it sounds like you just weren’t playing the right amount of attention. You know the sign said the left 2 lanes were closed, for some reason you thought it wouldn’t be the case and then it was closed.

I can’t understand why you thought the lane would stay open as you’ve admitted it says 2 lanes were closing , more of a possible issue is that it’s illegal to drive in a lane if you go under a gantry with a red cross above that lane but hopefully that isn’t the case .

There wasn’t a gantry with Red Cross. That I would have noticed. This was a metal sign.

When a lane is closed it depends if there’s is a red X on overhead signage or just a sign saying the lanes will merge. If the former, you must move over asap, if the latter then you should keep going until you hit the lane change and then merge in turn

I dont see the problem. This is what zippering is supposed to do. You stay in your lane and then zipper at the point at which the lane disappears.
