To find the temperature today unbearable?

In sw London. It’s meant to be cooler but it just feels so humid outside and my house is retaining the heat from the last few days no matter what we do. Fed up of feeling sweaty and lethargic all day.

I find it’s always like this the day after a heatwave - I think the environment has heated up so much that it takes time for everything to cool back down. I found it unbearable around 4pm and the sweat was pouring off me 🥵 I’ve totally had enough now, the last 3 days felt intolerable!

chedderland · Yesterday 20:36

@Americanstyleits awful isn’t it. Cooler weather next week thankfully!

I’m in the South East, it’s like living in an oven. My indoor temperature is still 29°, yesterday it was 31° I absolutely hate it.

mumumental · Yesterday 21:46

Same. It’s still very warm, at gone 9.

ApplePieCinamon · Yesterday 22:04

It’s absolute hell. I’ve never been a summer person and truly hate it. We as a family don’t holiday anywhere in August purely because we all can’t stand the heat.
Tofay we had a very expensive day- movies, lunch, and shopping all to get out of the house and in the aircon!
can’t bloody wait for this hell of a month to be over

chedderland · Yesterday 22:21

I did think about going out in air con but the thought of getting properly dressed and putting make up on was too much! Hopefully tomorrows a bit more bearable

I had to have a cold bath at 6pm. I just couldn't cool down. The humidity has made today the worst of the summer for me. I much preferred the dry heat yesterday, despite the higher temperature.

Phineyj · Yesterday 22:24

I needed some wipers replaced on the car a few weeks back. The aircon in Kwikfit was lovely! I was considering having a minor problem fixed daily....

I agree, it's been the foulest summer in London for ages.

chedderland · Yesterday 22:26

Desperate for air con units to come back in stock somewhere in Europe!

London was horrendous today. Supposed to be cooler than yesterday but it felt even more sticky and unpleasant than ever. Low 20s forecast from middle of next week - may even get down to 21 by Friday! That would be fabulous 😍

BrickBuilt · Yesterday 22:28

I don’t usually mind a heat wave and today was definitely cooler than it has been but OMG I was not dealing with it well this afternoon!

It’s partly having windows open and fans on all the time, when I hate ambient noise - and all the 6am dog walkers with their barky dogs outside. I’m so grumpy

Howlerhog · Yesterday 22:30

We need more lidos and better building design to cope. Modern houses are like ovens.

I'm going to spend what it takes to make sure one of our bedrooms can be kept to 22 degrees. Window film, awning, shutters, portable aircon...if someone will sell it to me I'm bloody having it!

chedderland · Yesterday 22:31

It’s a bit cooler with the doors and windows open now but it made no difference earlier. Have to put up with noise and stinky bbqs too. Small mid 30s terraced house seems to keep the heat in like a greenhouse.

I’d happily spend my life savings at this point

Yes! Today seems especially bad. It's 28.5 on the thermostat indoors, and only 20 outdoors. I have all the windows wide open and the door propped open, and yet it still isn't cooling off inside.

People who mock some of us for hating the heat waves and wanting air con despite it being 'only a couple of weeks a year' don't have a clue how long the heat lasts. I can use all the tricks to cool myself somewhat, the fans and the ice in front of them and the wet sheets and the cooling mats and whatnot, but it doesn't cool the room itself.

I'm going to have to close the windows and doors soon as I'm ground floor and need to go to bed, and the heat will radiate back in and put it above 30 again over the night.

Even the portable air con machine only lowers it a couple of degrees in that room (despite good window seal, hose insulation etc), and only while it's on. It quickly heats back up again, and I can't leave that on overnight either because it needs the window open. I've got the window films and the awnings outside, too. And the blinds down. And the windows closed in the heat of the day.

It might take weeks before it gets down to a decent temperature in here and I can finally sleep.

I think there must be a lot of humidity today or something too that is making it feel worse.

MaIeficent · Yesterday 22:33

I've been ok tbh. Went to the gym earlier and also got my hair done. But I was working in heavy PPE on the really hot days so I'm kinda used to it. It'd probs have to be at least 40 for me to really struggle when I'm in cool clothing.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · Yesterday 22:34

Rural and farmer has sprayed field with shit and it stinks. House is baking so it’s either shit or heat

chedderland · Yesterday 22:35

@MaIeficentI'm so envious of people who can handle the heat!

Have you tried a large good quality dehumidifier? I think the humidity's worse than the heat. I got this one:

LiliesOnTheWater · Yesterday 22:38

I haven't got one specifically, but my portable aircon is supposed to dehumidify. I haven't used it all day though as I figured it would cost a lot, but there is a setting that doesn't cool, just dehumidifies, and that's probably less costly, so maybe I should try that more.

OttimoMassimo · Yesterday 22:39

I was thinking exactly the same. The temperature might have been a bit lower in London today, but it felt so humid and uncomfortable. I thought there might be a storm, but nothing.

dontforgetme · Yesterday 22:39

I’ve had enough op. Around my mouth and nose are sore from constant sweating. I’m tired. Headache all week. It’s fucking unbearable, I don’t know how people can enjoy this. West Mids and this summer has ruined me.

I thought my hair hadn’t dried from the shower this morning but no one been in a state of constant sweat. It’s horrible!

Think we all need to get a grip. Yes it’s hot but in a month everyone will be moaning about fog then frost. Why can’t you all just go with it enjoy it while we’ve got it switch on those fans open those windows. It’ll soon be winter then you’ll all be moaning it’s cold.
