Can DLA renewal increase?

I’ve just got the DLA renewal forms through the post for my son’s award that runs out in December. I was going to fill it out and send back ASAP, but I’ve just realised that there might not be any point???

1. Will they even look at the renewal before December?
2. If they looked at it in say, October, and made a decision does it begin in December or backdate to October?

My son is currently getting low rate but his care needs have increased a lot and I think he’d be entitled to more at renewal.

Not sure about the timings as the system seems to be a bit quicker here in NI, but your son can definitely receive a bigger award if his needs have increased. My son started to need care during the night and his care award was increased. I did submit quite a lot of evidence.

Yes send it in because they can take time to come to the top of the pile. It does stop in December if they haven’t reviewed it!
