Oh My God Reaction GIF

AIBU to think the alert was unnecessary? I get wildfires are an issue but informing the public not to use bbqs isnt a life and death situation.

I think it was just using it as an opp to test the technology again

Sensible IMO

AplineDaisies · 14/08/2026 19:57

The government do not do these for no reason at all.

Kiwirose · 14/08/2026 19:58

It would be if it caused a fire. Fire services are stretched and didn't some people's houses burn down in the W Midlands due to fire?

BatchCookBabe · 14/08/2026 19:59

About half a dozen threads about this already!

And YABU.

muddyford · 14/08/2026 19:59

Wish he'd included fireworks and those moronic sky lanterns.

Of course yabu! And youre using the joey gif incorrectly!

BeKhakiReader · 14/08/2026 20:01

Tell that to the 16 families whose houses have burnt down.

Where I live the dual carriageway central reservation was on fire yesterday! I think it's a great idea to remind people not to have BBQs or start any kind of fire in this weather, it's not just farm land and open fields that are burning.

Indianajet · 14/08/2026 20:02

Are you serious? Of course fire can be a matter of life and death!

MrsOni · 14/08/2026 20:03

Have you not seen how devastating the wildfires in the cairngorms have been?

It did mention fireworks

AutumnAllTheWay · 14/08/2026 20:03

The message was totally warranted.

Grateful for it

People will really moan about anything wont they.

I live near a popular London park which is currently a tinderbox and there are pillocks with disposable BBQs and worse in there daily at the mo. Luckily there aren't any wooden houses nearby! Oh wait there are.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/08/2026 20:04

Now people know that sound is an alert (as they forget this stuff), they're more likely to pay attention when it goes off because some prick's lit a barbecue or bonfire and half the street is going to be ablaze in half an hour.

EweCee · 14/08/2026 20:05

I think it should used for IMMINENT threat to life - a national text message for this one would have been more appropriate imo. The alert service should be used for more immediate threats like flood, storm, war!!

Armorlux · 14/08/2026 20:05

If you lived somewhere where nightly fireworks after midnight are the current norm, you may think differently. The very area that has seen all those houses gutted.

Maybe, just maybe, it will get through to the idiots who think rules are for other people.

You don't think wild fires are a life and death situation?

It is a life and death situation

And people like you are the reason the government has to send the warning in the first place

Think about it

runnersfeet · 14/08/2026 20:06

Have you not seen the news or read a paper? It absolutely is life and death to both humans and animals. Your post proves it is necessary as you clearly don't understand the risks.

Multiporpoise · 14/08/2026 20:06

My 14 year old was stressed out because I was barbecuing chicken as the alert sounded!
