Selling used undies?

iknowineedtostoptalking · Yesterday 16:47

Lighthearted…. except at three in the morning when I’m lying in bed worrying….

Is it unreasonable to be (sort of) seriously considering trying my luck at selling my used undies?

Name changed because ew gross.

(I’m just sick of working super hard and being careful with money…. and still not having any. )

I hear ya, that and feet pics

PineappleCandy · Yesterday 16:50

I don't think it's quite as easy as stick them on Vinted with one pic unfortunately. You'd need really good photos and probably a model shot of yourself so the buyers can see the full product 🤢

iknowineedtostoptalking · Yesterday 16:53

I am really lolling at the thought of putting them on Vinted 🤣🤣🤣

wait… is that what people do?

heads to vinted

Yuck. Don't encourage that kind of thing! There's got to be a better way to make a few quid.

namechange6766333545544 · Yesterday 17:14

Well no one would want my knickers that’s for sure.

Angela59 · Yesterday 17:20

Not at all
My pals daughter partially financed her uni by selling her used tights
Shes “evolved” to specific taste on only fans now and makes quiet a bit.

ExtraOnions · Yesterday 17:21

used to be able to do well with Old Shoes on eBay .. sneakers or high heels, the more worn the better.

LennyLenses · Yesterday 17:22

I genuinely don't think women earn as much out of this as you read online.

malloryknox123 · Yesterday 17:23

Don’t. You would be selling your self respect

NC9000 · Yesterday 17:23

😮

I think the thing that is really off putting is that the men buying the undies aren’t content to just make a purchase. They want to engage with you first and that’s time consuming and exhausting and grim. Then there’s no guarantee they actually buy the damn thing. So actually when you think of the returns for time expended you’d be better off exploring other side hustles

I did this- sold an old battered pair of trainers for £20. Not always guaranteed though and ebay can pull the listing at any time

HoldingOntoMySanity · Yesterday 17:29

I had a friend who did this - god, 10 years back now. She was divorcing an abusive man who was financially controlling before that was a recognised thing.

She sold them for £20 each and even had a monthly subscription service. Even then i told her she could get more money for it.

Problem was - her ex found out and things got worse for her with the uptick of the abuse and him telling her DCs school about it as a safeguarding concern. It wasn't, she is an excellent mother. But it was fucking awful for her for way longer than it ought to hsve been.

I would do the whole Dominatrix thing with them “you have no permission to speak to me, speak to me again and you get nothing” - then double the price and chuck in a fuck off

Ha ha ha this gave me a good laugh, thank you

A friend of mine does this and whilst she hasn't made a fortune she has paid for two family holidays and some days out.

She goes on a specific site and has a bum shot photo (not of her - one that she found on the internet!!). She buys cheap knickers from Primark and when she sells a worn pair she literally take a pair out of the bag, rubs it around her armpits if she has just been to the gym or her husbands armpits when he comes home from work, puts them in a plastic bag and posts them off! She has regular buyers!!!

Men are idiots - they will buy anything!!

VeryQuaintIrene · Yesterday 17:59

What an eye-opening thread! Do they have to be horrid thongy-type things or would my sensible M and S ones do?

There’s a series on iplayer called Mood where the young women put pritt stick in the gussets to make the underwear look worn before posting it off to unsuspecting buyers.

It’s a good series - I really enjoyed it.

I know it's lighthearted but, just in case someone is tempted... It's a small business just like any other. So if you dream of making millions while going about your day, you won't. Running a small business requires ongoing investment (purchasing a subscription to a specialist site, supply of undies in various styles, postage and packaging) and time (market research to find your ideal customer, actual marketing to them, packaging and posting orders, dealing with complaints, chasing missing orders and damaged deliveries etc. etc.). And as in any small business, the vast majority of people underestimate what it takes and burn out before making any profit.

InterestedDad37 · Yesterday 19:30

I think it used to be a thing, but the gusset has fallen out of the market 😀

This made me laugh out loud in real life

Lexy2345 · Yesterday 19:43

A uni friend used to buy packs of cheap Primark knickers, anoint the crotch with Vaseline and flog them to seedy wankers online. Meanwhile I worked in a café for minimum wage.

NotMyNormalUserNameObvs · Yesterday 19:51

I sold used gym socks on eBay for a while. You have to word the listings very carefully or the listing gets pulled, and most buyers want to chat and then start asking for feet pics etc. I got annoyed with how time consuming it got and bailed.

KnittyNell · Yesterday 19:56

Jeez! I thought women wanted to be taken seriously and treated with respect.
Aim higher!
