Parents/carers who have not spent a penny on Educating their children and they have just received great A level results.

The sacrifices made all the struggle,

I’m interested to discuss families where the child has succeeded without need for private school

https://www.gbnews.com/money/private-school-fees-soar-vat

https://www.ft.com/content/091b214d-231b-414a-8f3e-9ef9fc021926?syn-25a6b1a6=1

Those who did pay,

presumably to secure great results at A level

The same kids off to Uni, placements easier to secure as less international competition. Uni the playing field evens.

And now time to pay for Uni,

https://inews.co.uk/news/education/university-tuition-fees-11000-2030-4705197?srsltid=AfmBOorss52PSHD6xJzisWMdeNxcXDen3IrCGS49nnGH1ZyDnmvTOh_k

A child who did outstanding (without spending a penny) the same result as a family who spent £250k + The above article is a low estimation for a selective U.K. day/ boarding.

The kids holding the same result off to the same Uni, How are families feeling!?…. Did you save to help towards the Uni Fees/accomodation.

Private school fees soar to £216,000 amid VAT raid

A private day school education from reception to A-levels now costs an average of £216,189

I still don’t understand how it got around the Talkguidelines with the second account.

VPN?

We could report, but not sure it's worth it.

I think it's right for Universities to select purely on academic ability and supra-curriculars. University is education, for the student benefit.

Employers are concerned more with how the person will perform in their work, which requires much broader skills.

It's a shame you think extra curricular interests are worthless: they allow young people to develop their wider abilities. And a good way to show examples of their strengths and abilities at interview.

If you can't talk about it, there's no way for the employer to know what you're capable of.

There are upteem free worthy things you can discuss at interview to show strength and ability as opposed to expensive activities mum and dad have paid for. A Saturday job or caring role, overcoming adversity, further reading, a project you’ve worked on….I didn’t make the changes to personal statements, UCAS did.

Most private school parents will claim its nothing to do with grades its absolute bollocks

Spend some time in a private school playground or function and all you will hear is the competitive discussion of where their children are going next, what university. There is this weird blasé attitude that no one cares too much and competitiveness is not openly on display yet many children will have tutors too (this is not openly discussed)

Its a weird world very different form most state school (unless in a very affluent area)

I am a private school parent and resent your accusations.

Of course Universities should choose on merit. However it’s not all about grades. For example do you have social, cultural, musical, or sporting talent you might bring.

Achieving solid A levels is all well and good. But has the child matured to into a socially capable young adult?

Well my state educated child has just been offered a place at a excellent university so I would say yes. These things are not unique to private school kids even if you think they are. Things have just been levelled up to give equally talented state kids the same chances as private. You just don't like that

Well no @Sidedoors - because like many socialists, Labour level down not up. And the smart people are fleeing. Conservatives were confused and incompetent and Labour are wokerati on Speed. There is literally no point in punishing private schools for the sake of it. It is just like Brexit, a complete affront to anyone who thinks both rationally and economically.

You need to sit and accept what those in power. The Labour government. Decide to do during their term.

No, you just assumed @Araminta1004 was talking about you for some reason.

The writing style is strikingly similar - although slightly less disjointed.

And she brought the conversation straight back to the same tedious broken record.

I mean you must see this isn't right @Pittachip

38thparallel · 18/08/2026 13:58

The school DT’s went to was selective
DT’s both got top grades at school

@Parker231 what are DTs?

Sidedoors · 18/08/2026 13:59

Araminta1004 · 18/08/2026 13:18

Imagine if Labour are now training the AI to influence public opinion or someone who thinks they can sell Labour a product! Quite funny really.

You just seem to target anyone who doesn’t agree with you.

Rather conservative minded of you. There is nothing you can do but abide by whatever Labour decide.

cityliving99 · 18/08/2026 14:02

If you look at the league table for top A level results, then you will see there is a mix of Independent and Private Schools. There is also evidence that schools in the SE out perform the rest of the country.
Many of those state schools are selective schools, which not everyone has access to.
its a personal and financial choice.
I had 3 children, all who went to different schools and so I have a pretty good knowledge of the different systems. Because of circumstances one of my children went to the local comp and did amazingly well. I think results are also mostly down to the child. If they are incredibly bright and motivated they will succeed at any decent school.

Conservatives have a tendency to attempt to bully and oppress others when they can’t get their own way. It is a standard practice and incredibly vulgar.

💯

Anything they don’t like, or are jealous of, they try to destroy. Conservative 101.

Thankfully silenced for the foreseeable.

Nonsense. If state school kids do well I am very happy with that.

It's not a case of if state school kids do well. The majority of state school kids do well. The college my son attended got higher grades than the local private school.

Araminta1004 · 18/08/2026 14:44

Well I am not a Conservative voter but still think Labour are shambolic so far. So what now? What about us the disillusioned floating voters pissed off with all of them. I want unity, not divide to conquer. I want proper investment and levelling up. Not some bring a minority of the 6 per cent down a notch for good measure and do literally zero for the 94 per cent - as if that is some miracle cure to the class system at large and inequality - it is not.

So provide constructive criticism and ideas. Not safeguarding of the 6%. Labour are the government, they govern, we all follow.

this is the latest data.

Privately educated students once again outperformed their state school peers, seeing a rise in the share of As and A*s to 48.6 per cent.
