To be incredibly sad

A hotel I have stayed in very regularly, since 2009, is now closing its doors.
Thanks to American sanctions, although I am in Europe.
Apart from the fact that I am sad, due to all the wonderful memories, I am gutted for the long-term staff.
This is really rubbish and due to Trump bombing Iran.

What US sanctions ?

Eh?

Could you explain a bit more about the reasons it’s closing?

The hotel owner was Persian. Trump accused him of financing the current regime in Iran and imposed sanctions. The hotel owner has now declared bankruptcy and Hilton, who were managing since 2024, are washing their hands of the place.
Prior to the switch to Hilton, the hotel was under the Kempinski brand (much better).
The hotel is in Germany, by the way.
I am very sad about all the staff, who have worked there for decades and had to put up with a great deal of uncertainty over the past few years and are now, hopefully only temporarily, out of a job.

The UK put sanctions against Ali Ansari before the US did (UK did it in 2025). Hilton was able to ignore that but cannot now the US sanctions since, Hilton is a US company and cannot ignore US sanctions (like it ignored the UK ones).
