You don’t have ‘mild PTSD’ from your A levels
unless you had a terrifying life threatening experience that you dissociated from and remain numb / hypervigalant with disturbed sleep due to nightmares and daytime terrors - flashbacks

just like people aren’t a ‘little bit adhd’
and
tnere is no ‘bit of OCD’.because you like your kitchen clean and tidy

😄 sorry gaaneen, I was just trying out a bit of hyperbole

3 As at A Level (History, English Literature, Economics) and an A and B at AS Level (History of Art and Philosophy.) 2004. I still remember the excitement of Results Day and being around all my sixth form friends as we huddled together and opened our envelopes after a countdown, was truly a lovely moment.

I then began a History degree and it all went a bit sideways: I attended poorly, a combination of my innate laziness and feeling “meh” about it all, and at 39 I still have no idea whether I have a degree or not or, if I do, what my grade is, because I never picked up the results or went to graduation.

I’ve done very well for myself. It didn’t turn out to be that important in the wider World of Work for me. My first job just knew I’d “been to university” and then from there on I’ve relied on professional experience.

Imaginingdragonsagain · 13/08/2026 16:36

ABC in days before A*. Was gutted with the C and missed my first choice uni. But I know I would have struggled with course there and had fab time at my second choice, so all good.

I got AAAA (before A*s). I was at a state school, and became the first in my family to head to Uni after that - went to Oxford. Results day was a happy day!

Absolutely brilliant!

What did you do on results day to celebrate? I know you can't really plan things until you know it's gone well.

DundeeNewcastle · 13/08/2026 16:32

AAA (pre A star days). I peaked too early and since uni have been v average 😅

Happy enough though

I got grade "N".
Which apparently is better than a complete fail (grade U) but not a pass.
I assume it stands for "Nearly But Not Quite" 😂
I had no plans to go to uni.
I only stayed on a school because I didn't want to leave. I wasn't cut out for A-Levels and really shouldn't have done them.

My sister got an N
What a kick in the teeth !
I got a D and two Us 😫

Imaginingdragonsagain · 13/08/2026 16:37

@DundeeNewcastle I peaked at GCSE’s so you’re better than me!!

MiddleAgedDread · 13/08/2026 16:37

AAC geography, maths, physics and a B in general studies (what was the point of that??) before the days of Astar

powercats · 13/08/2026 16:37

AAB
I misunderstood a big question in my ‘B’ exam, so I’m simultaneously grateful for having got a B at all for it, while also being annoyed because if I hadn’t misunderstood I’d have probably got 3xA.

To be fair attempting to do an A-level exam paper on Jane Eyre without actually finishing reading the book - I kind of deserved that N.
Jane Eyre is sooooooooo boring.
😂

😄 sorry gaaneen, I was just trying out a bit of hyperbole

Apology accepted 🥰
hyperbole aside,
so many people actually refer to ‘their PTSD’ in the literal sense and it undermines those who have the awful disorder that it is,
saying my leg is a little bit broken when it hurts,
would be readily seen as nonsense - when it’s mental illness, apparently anyone can self identify with anything !
anyway, sorry to interrupt your thread xx

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/08/2026 16:40

BeaTwix · 13/08/2026 16:27

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing I also dropped a grade but was taken by first choice uni.

feels like a real sliding doors moment. My second choice tends to produce grads who stay local. If I’d gone there my life would have been so different. Maybe I would have met someone, maybe I’d have had children!

I like my current life but I find the possibilities interesting.

It’s a funny one isn’t it?

People would say the Uni I went to was better but I think I would have done just as well career wise from the other Uni

It’s partly that I had a massive heartbreak at the Uni I went to, didn’t necessarily get along with all the people, got a bit too keen on drinking and going out etc

Maybe I’d have made more of things at the other Uni 🤷‍♀️

Or it all could have been much worse of course and I don’t know how lucky I am!

DevonKnowsImMiserableNow · 13/08/2026 16:41

Boomer55 · 13/08/2026 16:12

Did we need a TW for exam results? 🤷‍♀️

I was laughing at this. Especially when it says "A-levels" in the title.

dizzydizzydizzy · 13/08/2026 16:42

BEE. VERY disappointed. Too much executive functioning for my (at that time, undiagnosed) ADHD brain. Couldn’t do my dream course. Went through clearing and did something completely different, which I did well at (2:1) but didn’t particularly enjoy. Due to going through clearing, there was no student hall places left. I never really made friends and living away from everyone else made it much harder.

UnderThePressure · 13/08/2026 16:43

AABB for English Language, General Studies, Geography and French.
I didn't go to uni as it was the first year that tuition fees were bought in and I just couldn't afford it. I thought I would go at some point but it's just never happened and the fees kept increasing.
I might go when the kids fly the nest, never too late and all that.

OneAmethystTit · 13/08/2026 16:45

GaaNeen · 13/08/2026 16:33

Exactly 👍
what bollocks

There are no A levels in a sense of humour.

Jan24680 · 13/08/2026 16:45

BCC in chemistry, Physics and Maths. Also dark ages so I got an A in Geography and C in Biology. I think. No one ever asked past my clearing offer of CCC. No one cares when you are 40 kids. No one ever asked about the AS levels or GCSEs

Brainstorm23 · 13/08/2026 16:45

AAAA in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths ( you couldn't get A* at A-Level at that time).

Went to Oxford to study Physics and was home by March.

Namechangedisaster · 13/08/2026 16:46

BCU - back in the dark ages, a B and a C were considered to be perfectly fine grades. My university offer was BBC and they let me off one of those Bs for some reason... In I went having done almost no work at all.

ShakaWhenTheWallsFell · 13/08/2026 16:46

AAA(A)D
Biology, chemistry, physics (general studies), maths
Early noughties, A* didn't exist.

BeWarmKoala · 13/08/2026 16:46

Late 1970's BOO. Biology , chemistry and maths. O grade was not A level standard but not a complete fail. I was gutted, I had worked so hard and really thought I'd get the CCC I needed for biology at York. Worked out okay though, I did HND ( 2 years) then a degree ( 2 years) . Everyone on the HND was in a similar position and many did well.

Boxingshibes · 13/08/2026 16:49

DDU- I was gutted- went through clearing as I was determined to go to uni.
Came out with a 2.1 and a dyslexia and adhd diagnosis.
Subsequently I've done an MA and MSc. Working as a senior professional so not all bad.
Not everyone gets education at 18 and are more suited to doing it later if they want.

Mylostearring · 13/08/2026 16:50

Don't get me started 😂!

Still feel all of our English class should have had a re-mark - all predicted A-C grades and the highest mark was a D.

French A, Russian B, General Studies C, English Lit E. All before A stars.
