This place is fucking hilarious.

Most of it just confirms my view that education/literacy/ comprehension has declined substantially over the years. The lack of critical thought, reasoned argument and ability to see both sides is depressing.

100% agree with this. Certainly over the last 20 years.

It’s made me realise that people are offended by absolutely everything

What is funny (and infuriating too, tbh) are the competitive offence takers.

I'm more offended than you! I spotted more things to be offended by - ooh, there's another one!

My attitude to an OP is: just answer their question. Don't pick their OP apart becuase they're not quite up to speed on the latest terminology for autism etc.

I got slaughtered once because my grown up daughter had been diagnosed with Aspergers a few years previously. Well - I had my arse well and truly handed to me about that. That term is now obsolete.

OK - happy to be corrected, and grateful, if done politely. But the venom just came out of nowhere and left me literally shaking.

She was diagnosed as an adult. It wasn't as if she was 5. I was the world's worst mother, should be ashamed of myself and my daughter was to be pitied!

You have to remember that some people on here are troubled individuals themsleves.

It's just not really present on social media. Problem is, people believe it's a forum for critical debate, and they're having some form of intellectual discussion, when the reality is they've seen some headline, somewhere, and they just want to use it to piss on others' chips.

Maybe there should be a credentials check before entering a thread 🤔 We could go right from how many UCAS points did you get to how's the PhD going? Anyone who didn't get past GCSEs or only managed BTEC should be put to the sword, natch.*

*This is a joke.

I only find it fun/amusing when it's over nothing very important and both parties are equally up for the debate/spat.

But if it's piling on someone when they're down, or someone who wasn't looking for a 'fight', i think it's fucking appalling behaviour. So many perfectly reasonable OPs get derailled by idiots who latch onto something that isn't relevant and go on a personal crusade - they are just boring and annoying.

Agreed. It's the idiotic stuff, rather than the vitriol, that tickles my fancy.

OP posts:
AnitaCam · 13/08/2026 12:15

The only solution is to ignore that people are trivially offended, and save one’s concern for genuine offences.

TorroFerney · 13/08/2026 12:18

CoffeeCantata · 13/08/2026 07:35

There was a recent thread where a poor OP had been burned when a pizza landed on her - and ruined her dress.

She mentioned the make of the dress and - wow! The bitchy, snobbish remarks were something to behold. I get that women might feel those emotions but actually to come out and kick someone when they're down by sneering at the label they're wearing. I'd hate to meet those pps IRL.

Unbelievable.

Well I think the challenge there was it was the inference that it was really expensive so better than some pleb who had bought something from primark. But was funny as the brand wasn’t anything special.

TBF that's a pretty offensive generalisation of everything. It also excludes nothing, so I'm guessing nothing is going to be offended by the omission, and I'm going to be offended on nothing's behalf.

I blame sleep deprivation.

Help me out. What am I missing (aside from my marbles, which I lost, some time ago)?

I think the responses on the first page which piled in saying you were rude/obtuse were being ironic rather than serious.

But on here, who knows…!

It can be entertaining to read how dramatic some people can get over topics that really aren’t that serious, but I don’t enjoy reading people being nasty and argumentative for the sake of it to posters that are already having a difficult time. When I had only recently had a baby I briefly mentioned in a post that I was struggling with a new baby and an older child with additional needs and felt unsupported by my family. Only to have another poster tear into me over and over again about how I don’t deserve any support and I’m a horrible, entitled person for expecting it. It wouldn’t bother me now but I was very hormonal at the time and already feeling vulnerable and it did upset me. I’ve seen similar on a lot of other posts unfortunately. I think trying to bring other posters down when they’re already struggling is absolutely disgusting and gives me no pleasure to read.

True, but it might have been expensive to her. The comments were very snobbish…in a vulgar sort of way!

No, that's just horrible, uncalled for and unnecessary... And not funny.

Sorry you had such a rough time in the early days. Pregnancy / post-partum hormones are wild. And scary. And real.

Its starting to get rather boring tho. You can't post a comment with your opinion without someone taking offence to it now and starting a spat.
I admit I'm guilty of replying sometimes but erg every post lately gets an are you serious sort of remark to it.

I skip over the comments that are just spats between posters.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 13/08/2026 13:19

Some topics inevitably have posters whose views are like similar magnetic poles that can’t help pushing apart. Politics and religion, most obviously.

Some other topics deserve a little thought about why a poster’s emotions might be very raw, and their posts fighty. I always find the step- threads like that: stepmums having a hard time with stepkids get shit from anxious, bitter separated mums because they stand on such different ground with such different perspectives.

And of course some posters are just trolls or foul-mouthed losers.

The bunfights I really enjoy are those where nothing’s at stake. Style & Beauty threads are fucking excellent for that.

Ok, so I've not ventured into the serious stuff. The ridiculous and trivial is my stomping ground!

Absolutely. I got in a great bun-fight on a thread about OP being stuck doing the office washing up. Hilarity insued, as you can imagine. Some posters minimising it, some outraged.

One poster recommended a snarky passive-aggressive note along the lines of "your mother doesn't work here..", i pointed out that was not the way to go if you want respect or to be taken seriously.. then everyone pilied-on with the passag notes they'd seen or had made and the two camps went at it.. great fun.

Always happy to argue about the low-stakes stuff that some people love, and some find infuriating.

Yes - a classic is…wait for a pp to recommend Seasalt…and brace for the sneers about 80 year olds! It’s totally predictable. You can like a brand or hate it - but if you hate it, walk on by.

On a lighthearted level I agree.

But it us a bit depressing too - assuming we are mostly women on this site, I can just hear the misogynists laughing at the petty cat fights.

That’s a term some might choose to be offended by, but frankly, many of these pathetic squabbles Dont deserve any other name.

Offence is taken, not given, so it's on them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes, it sounds as though some of disagreements can be awful. I haven't seen much of that. It's the weird, trivial, mundane threads I find myself observing!
