This place is fucking hilarious.

There was a recent thread where a poor OP had been burned when a pizza landed on her - and ruined her dress.

She mentioned the make of the dress and - wow! The bitchy, snobbish remarks were something to behold. I get that women might feel those emotions but actually to come out and kick someone when they're down by sneering at the label they're wearing. I'd hate to meet those pps IRL.

Unbelievable.

Narrr, that sort of thing's not my bag. Poor woman.

Not sure in what way I was rude.

MN really can be hilarious.

If you enjoy blood sports!😂

Come back, though, OP and join the discussion. You raised a point.

I hate it when people start a thread and then go AWOL.

I'm baaaaack!

Deffo annoying when ppl just bugger off, isn't it.

And I've joined in ☺️

MN always makes me realise I live in a bubble. But maybe that's no bad thing - in fact, it's one of the reasons I come on here - to learn about different bubbles!

On no planet I know would my female acquaintances and friends mock or sneer because someone's clothes didn't have the 'right' label. I thought it was school playground stuff. But you live and learn!

It’s precisely what’s wrong with social media. Mumsnet is particularly bad for it. Woe betide anyone who enters the house of Mumsnet with shoes on, didn’t they know it’s a “global standard” to remove them?

And, believe it or not, this is older than internet social media. On teletext in 1997, there was a page “Backchat” where teenagers could write in, and respond to previous comments. One I remember was: “Backchat is brill because of the stupid things you all argue about. Keep up the good work, it’s so funny!” It sums up the whole of modern social media.

Eesh.

I guess it depends how you approach social media. If you take a view it's all a load of bollocks, then nothing runs deep.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 13/08/2026 11:57

Also, when it's so obviously a wind up, well it's obvious to me, and responders are typing long , ernest paragraphs 🫣 bless them. Saying that, genuine posts can get overlooked because of extreme cynicism.

I feel I am missing something as I rarely see spats - I need to up my game and read more threads..

You need to find BBQ / hot dog gate.

IMO some people join forums largely so that they can enjoy having a safe, anonymous go at other people.

They don’t bother me in the slightest - I just think they’re pathetic.

And MN is often so predictable. Any question of fiddling benefits, NO!!! Nobody fiddles, them, what about Evil Big Business, etc. etc. plus of course Keep Your Beak Out - another MN-speak cliche.

Not to mention women’s choice of clothing, Yes, it’s a woman’s basic human right to have her entire arse on display except for a thong when she’s shopping in Tesco/waiting for a bus - anyone suggesting otherwise is an antiquated misogynistic prude.

Ah yes, deliberate trolling is boring.

It's the irate reactions from OPs when people say something they don't like that gets me. Why ask a question on a public forum if you're going to go ape shit at the responses when they're not what you want to hear?

OP posts:
INeedAnotherName · 13/08/2026 11:59

Depends on the board tbh, although I now find these spats mostly boring. When they appear on a vulnerable woman's thread on the Relationship board then it is absolutely fucking horrific. Especially when bastards try and redefine the meaning of rape.

Userxyd · 13/08/2026 09:14

Depends what you mean by “take pleasure”! If you’re wondering at the hilarity thinking aren’t people mad then YANBU but if you’re getting enraged too thinking yes she’s an idiot, you tell her then YABU cos it’s getting you worked up and angry which is not a good use of your spare time!

Yeah, this.

I find people's reactions often far more interesting than whatever topic they're actually discussing.

People get so het up over sausages.

I think some of these comments are going waaaaay over your head! 🤣

I blame sleep deprivation.

Help me out. What am I missing (aside from my marbles, which I lost, some time ago)?

When it descends to argument I lose interest and move on. Waste of my time.

Snap. I'm not big into social media. Just lurk around here, now and again, when it's too hot to sleep. It does baffle me, some people's approach to others / life.

Most of it just confirms my view that education/literacy/ comprehension has declined substantially over the years. The lack of critical thought, reasoned argument and ability to see both sides is depressing.

That is funny. Gets boring to read it all but to see the sheer volume of text in response to a 🎣 is amusing. WAKE UP. IT'S A WIND UP.

This place is fucking hilarious.

I only find it fun/amusing when it's over nothing very important and both parties are equally up for the debate/spat.

But if it's piling on someone when they're down, or someone who wasn't looking for a 'fight', i think it's fucking appalling behaviour. So many perfectly reasonable OPs get derailled by idiots who latch onto something that isn't relevant and go on a personal crusade - they are just boring and annoying.

This is true. And the hyper - destructive part is the lack of humility. The campaigns for ‘ speak up, we all deserve a voice’ forgot to add ‘ and just say you don’t know, when you’re uninformed.. it’s fine not to speak, especially when you don’t know the topic..’

ForDucksSake · 13/08/2026 12:10

Sometimes it can be funny I suppose, but when there's someone who very clearly just wants a fight and almost 'faux' misunderstands perfectly valid and reasonable responses, it gets a bit schoolgirl and dull. It happened to me recently and I just couldn't be arsed even responding after the first couple of times. I don't come here for arguments, it can be such a lovely and supportive place, but some posters are clearly here for a rumpus. It clogs threads of usually pretty decent conversation with utter drivel. The bitchy/personal insults are never necessary.
