I find almost everything boring, bowling is boring and games are boring, work is boring and tv is boring.
I go and visit friends or family and I am bored.

It’s not a recent discovery, I have always been chronically bored, even on holidays.
I have tried various different activities to try and find something I enjoy but everything I do I am bored and just waiting for it to finish.
Don’t tell Dh but even sex is boring if it lasts too long.

I probably drink a bit too much but that’s only out of boredom.

Anyone else just bored all the time? I think I am so inside my head that I have no interest in the outside world, even when people talk to me I wish they wouldn’t because I’m happy daydreaming.

Literally nothing interests you? What do you do with your time?

SilenceInside · 12/08/2026 13:20

Do you read? I'm not sure it's possible to find every single type of book boring. Mind you, the same is true of TV and film.

Are you bored because the activities aren't challenging enough for you? Or because your attention wanders quickly and you can't concentrate for any length of time?

I am happy with my own thoughts and don't find my own internal thought processes boring, so even if I am not engaged with whatever activity I'm doing, I am not bored, if that makes sense? I can amuse myself with my own thoughts.

If you went out for a long walk on your own, would you be bored?

I go on mumsnet.
Seriously nothing interests me, sports are boring and I can’t get into them.
I can start a book but I’m bored after 2 pages.
I find cooking boring so I eat things I don’t need to prepare or cook like salads and tins of things.
My husband watches tv but I never follow anything on tv as it all looks boring.

Have you always felt like this? Burn out often presents like this.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 12/08/2026 13:28

So how do you spend your free time. Do you literally sit there doing nothing

FruAashild · 12/08/2026 13:29

I'm tempted to say 'only the boring are bored' but it sounds more like depression. What is your job and do you enjoy that? What did you study at school/university and did you enjoy that? How on earth did you manage to get married if you find everything boring? Do you have children and do you find them boring? There must have been something in your life that engaged you at some point?

5foot5 · 12/08/2026 13:29

Have you tried any crafts? Making models?

What about music? Do you play an instrument or do you fancy learning one?

I kind of get not being interested in sport but what about going for a good long hike somewhere?

I find it hard to fathom not being interested in something.

rahhhh · 12/08/2026 13:29

Are you depressed? Having no interest in things is one of the main symptoms of depression.

bananaapplepears · 12/08/2026 13:30

I'm a bit like that. I go to the gym an run but that doesn't take up much time so am bored outside of that. I do like football but there's none on at the minute. I've got some time off work and am just sitting here bored with nothing to do. I'd rather work and be occupied.

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 12/08/2026 13:30

Have you ever been tested for adhd?

category12 · 12/08/2026 13:33

If you're happy daydreaming, then you're not really bored?

What do you daydream about?

onthebonesofmyartistry · 12/08/2026 13:34

Sounds like anhedonia - have you ever discussed your chronic boredom with a medical professional?

Adviceneededtonightplease · 12/08/2026 13:34

Kind of me. I don’t have any hobbies be it keeping fit or choir. I do have time in the evenings but I haven’t done anything in years.

timtamsarebetterthanpenguins · 12/08/2026 13:35

I find it really, really sad when people say they have nothing that interests or excites them in life. There is a whole world out there - how can you have nothing that grabs your interest and keeps you entertained?

That's really sad. Agree with pp that it could be depression. Is it a recent change or have you always been like this?)

Oliwiaa · 12/08/2026 13:35

Sounds like either you are depressed, or you have ADHD.
Do you have any other issues with organisation, completing tasks etc?

Scrubwren · 12/08/2026 13:36

But what do you daydream about if literally everything strikes you immediately as boring?

DaisyChain505 · 12/08/2026 13:37

Do you find things boring or do you just not have the patience to stick to something?

Only eating simple foods because you don’t want to cook doesn’t sound like boredom it sounds like impatience and possible ADHD?

I have no hobbies myself unless you call binge watching Netflix a hobby. But I certainly am able to find joy on holiday etc.

It sounds like you could do with a trip to the doctors @twirlywindmill

I think it’s more that I don’t stay focused on what I’m doing.
I do try but I couldn’t sit through a film at the cinema or sit and make something or do a puzzle and I find household chores torture.
I actually feel a horrible feeling run down my back when I’m bored especially if I’m trying to do something fiddly like sew a button on, it’s like a twitch that forces me to stand up or stop. I know it’s not real and there’s nothing wrong with my back, it’s just like a squirm.

I can lose myself in my phone or if I have some wine I don’t feel the boredom but other than that time just seems to stand still.

What can you natter on about for ages if someone asks?

MyKindHiker · 12/08/2026 13:46

Have you always been this way?

It feels like you're experiencing the world with no color... I wonder if antidepressants or even some form of ADHD medication might help to inject a bit more light into your world?

Having absolutely no interest in anything I think is really unusual. Most people have something that will brighten their day whether it's a sport or they like reading or looking at trains.

Woollyguru · 12/08/2026 13:47

I do have a couple of hobbies but outside of that I'm seriously bored with my life. Boring job, bored with same old socialising, cooking etc etc.

I want to pack it all in and go travelling but am stuck in domestic drudge.

I do enjoy listening to music but it’s more background noise so doesn’t stop me from being bored, I would find learning to play an instrument boring.
I work in a busy bar, but I only do a 4 hour shift and find the boredom intolerable, I do usually have a few cheeky shots which makes time go a bit faster.

I do have children and do things with them, park, swimming, beach but I do it for them as I enjoy their company but I don’t enjoy the actual activities.

If it was a recent thing then I would agree but even as a child I found everything boring so unless I was born depressed I’ve never been any different.
