My mother, who is 75, runs 7 miles every day and has done so since she was in her 40s. She fell recently and twisted her ankle badly so went to the hospital with it. The x-rayed and told her that she had broken it. But she hadn’t broken it then, she had broken it about 10 years previously, she just hadn’t noticed and had continued to run 7 miles every day.

Interesting. Was her leg also swollen to twice it's normal size, for those 10 years?

It was not.

Something that's confusing me is this: from the video I posted above, Jason said:

"so i completed my phd in two and a half years working full-time".

Leeds Beckett University says that a PhD takes 3 tests years full time, 6 years part time.
https://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/research-degrees-and-research-students/research-degrees/types-of-research-degrees/

So how did JA complete a PhD in just 2½ years while working full time?

I think you can talk about academic years or calendar years. So you start in say October 2000 and finish in say May 2003. Three academic years but two years eight months on my calendar.

Working full-time more difficult but I think full-time is classed as 30 hrs per week so could be possible. I've certainly had staff who worked close to that at weekends while studying. Not ideal.

I think the problem with this is he told some things that clearly aren't true (7 up) so people want to pick everything apart like people have said he wasn't diagnosed as ASD as a child. How can anyone of us know that unless we have access to his medical records? Running with a fracture well I think that's possible if it wasn't the femur other people don't agree, so what we all have different experiences.

At the end of the day does it matter if we work out exactly what percentage of his claims were true, how many were exaggerations and how many were just untrue. I don't think anyone has got a job because they can run on a broken leg or because they did their PhD in two and a half years.

Let Cambridge do it's investigation using facts not "I think"

TheignT · 19/08/2026 11:07

WonderfulSmith · 18/08/2026 23:28

It was not.

My leg was swollen when I fractured it. Not double the size and more than ten years later it has never gone back to original size. It's not very swollen, people probably don't notice but I am self-conscious about one leg being thinner than the other and I live in trousers, I think I've worn a dress twice in that time when going to a formal occasion.

I'm a couple of years younger than your mum, I try to keep fit, gym three times a week and a brisk walk every day but a seven mile run every day is amazing. Wish I could manage that.

SevenYellowHammers · 19/08/2026 13:11

KatiePricesKnickers · 18/08/2026 13:51

From AI:
Femoral Stress Fractures: While a hairline or stress fracture might technically allow brief, highly painful movement initially, running on it can easily force the bone to snap completely (displace), requiring major surgery.

So, debunked.

Cambridge University is woke central. There's not much chance they'll move away from throwing accusations of racism, they're fully sold on all the critical race theory/gender ideology/social justice warriors stuff. It's an ivory tower full of luxury beliefs.

What on earth are you talking about? For better or worse, maybe you think for better, it’s one of the foundational hubs of white male privately educated privilege in the country. Most of the colleges didn’t even admit women until the late twentieth century. Students are about five times more likely to have been privately educated than the general population. I can’t imagine how far right wing you would have to be to consider it ‘woke central’.

worth watching to hear from Cofnas

I was disappointed to see JKR call Cofnas a racist. It's the first time I've seen her normal intelligent self come across as a hypocrite. If Cofnas is racist for exploring IQ differences in race, JKR is transphobic for categorically stating the biological differences between men and women. This is the problem with labels.

It is very very possible to be a privileged white male abd espouse woke ideology. Academia is stuffed with such people

Places change and in any case woke beliefs are luxury beliefs and misogynistic beliefs not those of the working classes. Across uk universities up to 80% of academic staff consider themselves left wing - in some faculties this is much higher with right wing staff feeling unable to let their political allegiances be public. Just over third of undergraduates at Cambridge are international students, and over half of postgraduate students. White British employees are hugely underrepresented there too at only 48% of staff.

Being against racism seems to be “woke” these days. Chilling and shameful.

You are (conveniently) reducing the woke landscape to being anti racist. I tell you what is chilling, just seeing a Green Party poster by a newly elected council member. Anti Jews and anti women is right at the top of their agenda - all in the name of equality. That's your typical wokester for you.

Well exactly, it's a bastion of white wealthy male privilege going back 800 years - why do you think they've got so much liberal guilt?!

Cambridge is exactly the kind of institution which was ripe for capture by social justice warriors, full of privileged people who are uncomfortable with their awareness of their privilege and desperate to demonstrate that they're not like the caricature of a Cambridge person. Couple that with privileged sheltered idealistic students who are great at passing exams and understanding theory but who have little experience of the real world, and this is what you get. Performative social justice.

It's no wonder Cambridge was happy to let Arday's fraudulence float over them. He was quite the poster boy for these wonderful progressives.

I thought it was so interesting how he discussed that. We shouldn’t put JKR on a pedestal. She’s done amazing things but she’s is also human. She’s not actually fully aware of all the issues even if she is deep in the weeds. Having said that l, the way they talked about sex vs “race” average difference really clarifies his points and is at the heart of his criticism of DEI.

That’s how it’s promoted and perceived.

The term meant awake to racial injustice but has come to be a cover all insult to anyone who believes (as I do) that the world is an unequal place.

We had the same with “politically correct” previously. A term originally meant in a satirical way about how the USA used language to cover up real inequality.

You’ve got to ask yourself why does the right wing hate us so much. Is it possible that they might have something to lose by subjugated people becoming organised?

If you scrape around enough you’ll find anti White rhetoric but that’s at the extremes . What you’re saying is a bit like saying Valerie Solanas is the face of modern feminism.

Dear lord, what are you on about? Most of the original left were Jewish and White. Some were women.

Who hates women? Where are you getting this gibberish from?

Yeah there’s always a nutter you can find to prove a point but that’s like me saying Enoch Powell is the face of modern conservativism. “The left” has got you:
sick pay
maternity leave
the NHS
union support
employment rights
sex equality
education free at point of entry

Where would working class women be without these things?

You don’t think kindly aristocrats would give us those things do you? We’ve all had to fight for even basic dignity. And it’s eroded as soon as you take your foot off the gas. Class struggle is constant.

yeah there’s some people angry about Israel’s/ USA’s treatment of Palestinian people but only idiots hate Jewish people as a result. Sadly antisemitism existed before 7th October, before the state of Israel and WW2. Antisemitism is an evil poison as is all racism.

Please tell me the source of your information saying that people on left hate Jewish people and women. You know that there’s all sort of shit swirling around out there don’t you? Bots and other disinformation designed to destabilise us. Please, let me say, woman to woman, by all means read everything, and know your enemies but for God’s sake exercise a little bit of thought before announcing that people on the left hate Jews, women and white people!

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 14:30

@SevenYellowHammers you have lumped all the right together. I take it you won't mind me doing the same about the left. Take a look at the state of the Green party and its collection of haters. Don't like women, don't like Jews, Don't like Israel, don't like able bodied people, don't like straight white people. You're painting them as such a delightful bunch. Heather Herbert has got news for you.

Biological differences between men and women is a thing, which is why sex is protected characteristic; IQ differences between races comes with a hefty agenda and a fucktonne of prejudice
Not sure hypocrisy is the word you’re looking for
