AIBU to find repeated Sue Sue Sue comments on Ann Droid boring now

In every discussion about the TV comedy Ann Droid there are numerous posters writing "Sue Sue Sue".

We've just had episode 4 and it's not been said since the very beginning of the second episode and doesn't feature anymore yet everyone is writing it on posts. AIBU to find it boring now? The show has moved on and it's funny enough.

I think Diane Morgan is one of those marmite actors/comedians that you either love her and find her incredibly funny, or can't stand her. I am in the latter camp, I don't find her philomena character funny at all, she did "who do you think you are" last year and was not entertaining on that at all.

Sue Johnston however is a national treasure.

Completely agree ‘

i loved it

I’ve just realised it’s not Aiden Turner, must be the moustache but I honestly thought Michael was played by Aiden…

Should’ve have gone Specsavers!

Bogstandardname · 09/08/2026 09:37

I enjoy it, apart from the wet lettuce son. It is quietly funny and often sad.

No idea why you'd start an AIBU thread on a few comments made on the telly forum. As I posted in the telly forum: I found Ann Droid very good and funny but the trailer I saw didn't do it justice.

The comments I'm talking about are from Facebook not here.

I've been surprised by the rave reviews. I admire both lead actresses but decided after watching episode 1 that it wasn't for me. I just found it too silly and unrealistic.

It did get better, I was a bit 50/50 after the first episode but episode 2 was very funny and I saw it through to the end. It’s a lot better than most recent attempts at new comedy.

I stopped watching it after the first episode, because the "Sue Sue Sue" was so grating.

The joke isn't funny either: the three words aren't inherently amusing together, "dumb robot taking things too literally" is a trope, and the set up makes no sense: why would her friend bellow" SUE SUE SUE" into the robots face when asked for a name? If she didn't hear the first time, then the joke might work better, but she just goes straight for it.

And yes, I am fun at parties.

It's a trope about how old people interact with technology they they don't understand

Some music might cheer you up <plays cotton eye Joe>

I've watched it all on iplayer and I really enjoyed it. You do need to persevere. Michael is a waste of space, that's the idea.

Exactly, a trope. And old people might shout as a trope because they are a bit deaf, but why three times? Simply an unfunny joke.

? Sorry you're so personally invested in the success of a BBC sitcom (and thanks I love Rednex, even pop in an oak)

OwMyBackandKneesAndHips · 09/08/2026 10:01

I enjoyed it. Silly and enjoyable.

BrokenBiscuitss · 09/08/2026 10:06

Really dumb concept. Amn Droid should have been one skit on a wider skit show. Comedy for "my kids are my world" vibes

FionnulaTheCooler · 09/08/2026 10:06

I took a couple of episodes to get into it but ended up enjoying it. I did laugh at "all of your dresses are bloody awful."

loveagift · 09/08/2026 10:08

It’s get better after episode 1 and it’s quite heartwarming in places

HoraceCope · 09/08/2026 10:08

and I fail to see what you are bringing to the table

Bet your house is fun!

ElectricMagpie · 09/08/2026 10:10

I adored Ann Droid, but can imagine exactly why man-child Michael and his scumbag wife are kryptonite to Mumsnetters

I haven't watched an episode. The few adverts were enough to make it clear it would be absolute shite!

Agree. The radio adverts are so fucking awful I leap across the room to mute it when they're on.

Very glad I've not paid license fee for decades, so can't watch it anyway 😂

AngelsWithSilverWings · 09/08/2026 10:22

We've really been enjoying it and everyone in our house thinks Sue Sue Sue was hilarious.

I think it's so clever that it was only used in the first episode but it's the first thing anyone says when you mention that you've watched it.

Loopylalalou · 09/08/2026 10:23

Not everyone can like everything. I loved Mandy, also by Diane Morgan, but my DH thought it purile.
I think you need to look beyond the immediate action on look at the poignancy of the message behind it all. Simply, I took that to be that loneliness is awful, but having company is good, even from a robot. I also think there’s an analogy for uncontrollable AI when the robots escape. And that community trumps all - such as the charity shop lady using the broken down taxi for the past twenty years, rather than a new one.
I’ve only watched it through once and no, I’m not overly invested, it just engaged me.

Flamingojune · 09/08/2026 10:25

The first episode made me cry

WinterAconite · 09/08/2026 10:27

Yes. I like the series but the repetitive Sue Sue Sue comments are like the repetitive spider willy giggling on hanging out washing overnight threads.

allymccoist · 09/08/2026 10:31

I loved it. I found it poignant and moving and it united our whole family in our hatred of the useless son.

I mentioned it to my mum and but then I said she might find it a bit close to
home as she is recently widowed and she said she’d actually watched it all and loved it and loved how blunt Linda was and sometimes she just wishes she could tell people straight like that what she thinks of them - tbh I think she has already started doing this!
