AIBU to find repeated Sue Sue Sue comments on Ann Droid boring now

In every discussion about the TV comedy Ann Droid there are numerous posters writing "Sue Sue Sue".

We've just had episode 4 and it's not been said since the very beginning of the second episode and doesn't feature anymore yet everyone is writing it on posts. AIBU to find it boring now? The show has moved on and it's funny enough.

I loved it. Sweet, poignant. Obviously you wanted to slap the son but I think thats the point.

I haven't watched an episode. The few adverts were enough to make it clear it would be absolute shite!

I'd give it a go. The adverts really undersell the programme - it is much funnier than they suggest. I wouldn't have watched based on the ads alone but two episodes in and I loved it. (Am now in my third rewatch of the whole series and SueSueSue makes me smile.)

CarpetSlipper · 09/08/2026 08:51

I tried watching it but couldn’t get through episode 1. I thought it was really bad, especially the bloke from Motherland. Does it get better? I might give it another go.

I would not have watched it based on the trailers but DH watched the first two episodes and recommended it so we watched it all and loved it - he's very picky so it was unusual he liked it.
And Sue Sue Sue is funny, it just is. Doesn't matter she only says it a few times, I've had to sit through people saying "pivot!" for years and that's only in one episode of Friends

Justonegirl · 09/08/2026 08:55

Very enjoyable.

Spoiler alert!

Is Michael going to fall in love with the "intercourse" doll?

I stopped watching it after the first episode, because the "Sue Sue Sue" was so grating.

The joke isn't funny either: the three words aren't inherently amusing together, "dumb robot taking things too literally" is a trope, and the set up makes no sense: why would her friend bellow" SUE SUE SUE" into the robots face when asked for a name? If she didn't hear the first time, then the joke might work better, but she just goes straight for it.

And yes, I am fun at parties.

It stopped after the first episode. That's why I don't get why people go on and on about it.

Every day I am astounded by how unobservant people are.

Everyday I am astounded by the amount of wazzocks on mumsnet

Cuppachuchu · 09/08/2026 09:01

It's funny and poignant. I loved it and hope they make more.

NeedANewOne25 · 09/08/2026 09:02

The first episode was just scene setting. We persevered, there were many bittersweet and heart warming moments as the relationships developed. Sue reflects on the loss of her husband, her son is useless, Linda is not. There were some scenes where we just laughed and laughed. It was good to watch something different for a change.

I've seen precisely one person online saying SueSueSue.

I'm saving it up for my friend Sue when I see her though 😆

She’ll love this. You’ll definitely be the first person to say it to her 😜

YouSawBrigadoon · 09/08/2026 09:05

I’ve not seen a single person saying ‘SueSueSue’. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway, we really loved Ann Droid.

New people are discovering it, stop reading the threads if it’s bothering you. It’s been ever this that people hold on to funny lines from television and repeat them.

I still think “Neil Neil orange peel” and The Young Ones was in the 80s 🤣

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 09/08/2026 09:10

Poldark woman needs to go to spec savers 😮🤣

Waitingfordoggo · 09/08/2026 09:10

Yes @Emmasblackboard, same here!

And I can’t hear the name ‘Dan’ without wanting to shout it repeatedly à la Alan Partridge.

LadyRoughDiamond · 09/08/2026 09:20

It’s one of the few comedy shows my 11 year old son likes. Nice to have something to watch with him, but it does say something about the level of writing there.

MyPantsAreFartCentral · 09/08/2026 09:23

I loved it! Some poignant moments and also some real laugh out loud moments too. I didn't see any ads but it was my sister who watched it and then recommended it. Afterwards I went on to binge watch Motherland as I'd never been interested in that and loved that too. Agree that Michael wad annoying but Paul Ready is so likeable in Motherland as Kevin.

hugasaurus · 09/08/2026 09:24

It’s just a catchphrase. There are dozens of phrases from shows that were only said in one episode but people find funny and that have entered their everyday vocabulary. I can reel off about half a dozen right now (mainly from Gavin and Stacey and Father Ted). In fact this morning my DH said something about UHT milk we had in the cupboard and I was compelled to say ‘But there’s no demand for UHT. Because it’s shite.’

I found it quite trite, surprised Poldark agreed to be in this. Does it get better?

So you didn't actually "watch" it then.

I gave up trying to enjoy it after 2 episodes so I don't feel qualified to comment.

The adverts for it were not a true reflection of the show. I also wasn’t going to watch it after seeing the trailer but it turned out to be brilliant so I glad I gave it a chance!

Thatcannotberight · 09/08/2026 09:30

I didn't expect to like it, I thought I'd watch one episode on Iplayer. I ended up watching the whole series. It's rather sweet and laugh out loud funny.

Netcurtainnelly · 09/08/2026 09:31

There's a thread on Telly addicts.

The son and his girlfriend are not needed in this.

Sahara123 · 09/08/2026 09:32

I really wanted to like it as I like Sue Johnston but I thought it was awful. To be fair I can’t stand sitcoms so I don’t know why I thought it would be any different!

AuntieBiotics · 09/08/2026 09:32

I think Diane Morgan is one of those marmite actors/comedians that you either love her and find her incredibly funny, or can't stand her. I am in the latter camp, I don't find her philomena character funny at all, she did "who do you think you are" last year and was not entertaining on that at all.

Sue Johnston however is a national treasure.

KeyboardMonkey · 09/08/2026 09:32

No idea why you'd start an AIBU thread on a few comments made on the telly forum. As I posted in the telly forum: I found Ann Droid very good and funny but the trailer I saw didn't do it justice.

I disagree. I thought it looked unfunny in the adverts and watching one episode confirmed this !
