What happens with "trans" people at airports?

NorthEastNancy · 03/08/2026 02:04

I've just come home via Dalaman airport and was stopped and patted down / searched at all 3 check points (I clearly look guilty / dodgy)

Twice i had to wait until a female member of staff was available. What on earth happens with trans people? I wouldn't want to be patting down someone with a male body if my job was to stretch females.

I've been pondering this literally all the way home!

My trans daughter was patted down externally by a male attendant earlier this Summer after "beeping" when going through the scanner (turned out to be the zips on her boots). Both survived the ordeal untraumatised.

Why not?

Plenty of transwomen are attracted to women, lots of them are previously heterosexually married fathers.

& plenty of lesbians are attracted to women 🤷‍♀️ but none of you mind them touching you?

Read the posts I was responding to. A poster said they had trauma from a previous assault by a man so didn't want to be touched by a stranger man. The poster I responded to then stated that a TW wouldn't be attracted to that poster.

First sex assaults are about power not attraction secondly there is a myth that all TW are gay men. This isn't true but is one of the lies used to try and justify inserting men into women spaces.

Women who don't want to be searched by men aren't claiming to be so irresistible that they think all men fancy them ffs.

Lesbians might fancy you isn't the gotcha you seem to think it is.

Yeah and that’s the thing - there’s not time to stop and answer an interview about your preferences, identity, kinks and what not to make sure you have the preferred human doing a safety search. And then the same for searcher! Lots of people have to see/touch bodies of the opposite sex as part of their jobs. They just get on with it.

this is just a trans bashing thread again.

Yes, i agree. Noone worries about whether doctors or other healthcare professionals mind touching members of the opposite sex. It's part of the job.

If it’s so unimportant then how come you have to wait around for a woman to search you if you are a woman .

Plenty of women are attracted to women too. Do you think women should be allowed to refuse to search lesbians?

Because it is assumed that women preferred to be searched by women.

I thought it was about being searched not the person doing the searched gender.
I dont think a trans womens going to interested in you in a sexual way.
Fark sakes

You are so clueless it must hurt.

DustyMaiden · 03/08/2026 10:23

People can just act like adults and get on with it. Stop making problems where none exist.

ShootingStarmonth · 03/08/2026 10:23

I am F
I have been thoroughly patted down, including between the legs on my privates.
It was not sexual
I cannot remember which airport or which country (travel widely)
The F officer was just doing her job
I still had all my clothes on

Not an issue

Why not? Genuine question, why do you think
its not possible that a transwoman would be interested in a woman in a sexual way?

There's a big difference between being searched and being the one doing the searching.

No way would I want to be searched by a man. If my job required it I would search men.

You thought about this the whole way home?! You must have f-all else to worry about!

I'm lucky to not be a worrier. But yes, I did ponder it between reading my book and scranning my Pot Noodle!

You don't caress their genitals, you simply pat over clothes around the body, I don't think it's as much of a big deal, you wear gloves too if needed.

Why would you think a lipsalve wasn't allowed? Confused

Remember that lipsticks, lipsalves, creams, soap, and all liquids were banned from carry-on immediately after the shoe bomber incident. The ban was gradually relaxed over the years as new security procedures were introduced.

MyEasterBonnet · 03/08/2026 10:42

The person being searched has the right to choose who does the search. The staff member doing the training is trained to search both men and women and they don’t choose who they’re searching; they’re in the wrong job if they’re going to shirk 50% of the job.

KookyFish · 03/08/2026 10:43

I would imagine in Turkey they dont give a fuck what you decide you are they will look at you and decide. The rest of the world doesn't bow down to this pathetic woke nonsense.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 03/08/2026 10:43

NorthEastNancy · 03/08/2026 02:46

Literally no point to your response. Do you have any thoughts on security checks relating to this?

No point to your question actually, unless you’re trans yourself, or doing a search.

SadiraOfTyr · 03/08/2026 10:44

In my experience transwomen, even ones who don't remotely pass (ie most of them) get patted down by women security officers if the arch bleeps. I used to fly a lot for work (over 50 flights a year), and some destinations (e.g. Berlin) would have a lot of trans/non-binary passengers so would see it fairly often.

LadyJaneEarlGreyTea · 03/08/2026 07:51

Training indicates that unless female security staff consent to search travellers with male bodies they can’t be employed?

I expect that it is part of the job to be able to search bodies male , female and anything thing in-between. A nurse goes into the job knowing that they will be exposed to bodies of all kinds just the same. Would you think it acceptable if a nurse decided they would only treat females ?

Well, your experience is not universal - see my post above, my trans daughter (who is not yet on hormones and does not pass) was patted down by a male. She was in jeans and a sweatshirt at the time and somehow managed not to leer at any other person (male or female) as we moved through the airport.

In many countries, particularly those that are Muslim, a trans woman would be patted down by males regardless of what their wishes were.

This is fair. À trans woman is a man.. the word woman has been poached and incorrectly inserted into a false nomenclature.

they should be called ‘ failed men’.
