Double ear piercing at age 11

My daughter is about to start secondary school and had her transition days this week.

One of the girls in her new class has double ear piercings, and, irrationally, it rubbed me the wrong way. I can't even quite explain why! My brain seems to file it somewhere closer to a tattoo than a standard ear piercing, even though I know that's not really logical.

My daughter had her ears pierced earlier this year after I finally surrendered, and I have double piercings myself. So it's not as though I have particularly puritanical views.

And of course, my daughter has now spotted this girl and immediately launched the campaign for a second piercing before September. I fear the siege may be a long one, and history suggests the defenders rarely win.

AIBU to think that a double ear piercing is a bit too much at age 11? Or am I actually a latent pearl clutcher?

At my DD’s school some girls had 2+ piercings in year 6, but most got their second piercings in year 9 and 10.

I acknowledged there’s not much logic in it! But I suppose it’s because until recently it’s usually only been older teenagers or adults who had more piercings.

Hopefully this child will get sanctions at school due to the stupidity of her mother in allowing it in the first place. Stick to your guns.

Yanbu. I think double piercings look too grown up on an 11yo. My DD is 16 and got them done recently, totally fine with that.

Who the hell is allowing 11 year olds to have tongue piercings?

This is really interesting as I wouldn’t let my daughter get her ears pierced until she was 13 (she’s 16 now but still doesn’t want them pierced); however, I would let her paint her nails from the age of 3 without a second thought. Although, I really don’t like make up on children and especially things like fake eyelashes.

We are all different. It could be the way our parents raised us. I wasn’t allowed my own ears pierced until I was 18.

My dad noticed mine about 6/7 years ago. They have been there since I was 16/18.

I wouldn’t allow it as I hate piercings, tattoos etc, but everyone is different. Some parents think it is perfectly okay, others wouldn’t allow it until 16+. She’s your daughter so it’s what you’re comfortable with. If you don’t like it stick to your guns.

Mine had a second at about 13 and a helix at 14/15. The rule was always that it has to happen on the day that the summer term finishes, so that it has time to heal. So it’s too late for this year.

It’s so busy….:I had forgotten I had promised helix and I only just managed to find a cancellation. Everywhere was fully booked for day after end of term.

My daughter’s friends started showing up with them around then. I wouldn’t care but she’s not interested. By 12, the first belly rings were showing up.

A group of girls got a piercing gun on shien and were all piercing each other in the toilets one week in S1. That prompted me to tell my daughter I will take and pay for her to get whatever she fancies, but please please please don’t do that!

I let my DD get her second done for the start of year 9 when she was 13. She can't wear 2 at once for school so wore the second piercings only for most of year 9 but obviously two in each ear on weekends. Her body her choice.

I think a double ear piercing at 11 yrs old is fine. They are able to consent to this and look after the piercings properly. I have a big problem however with babies having their ears pierced. It is painful for them with no understanding or consent and is unnecessary. It is also dangerous as earings csn come loose very easily.

Oh bless you, no good advice but just want to show some solidarity ❤️ my dd of 4 so we aren’t at that stage yet. I had my ears first pierced at 11, then the next holes about 13, then my upper ear when I was 15…… the nagging my mum got from me must have been horrendous for her 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m now 40 with 3 pairs holes in lower ears, 2 upper ear piercings in one ear, my tragus and my nose….. I love all my piercings so my dd always sees me with them so I know it’s inevitable she will want hers doing in no time at all…..
BUT now I have her, I can’t help but feel even 11 for one piercing is so so young…. My thoughts about this matter are conflicting and hypocritical 🤣😫😘

My dd12 has two lobe piercings, one cartilage and one conch. My dd16 has the same plus third lobes, second cartilage and belly button. Not bothered.

Only one pair of studs allowed at our school. Some screechy mum has spent months arguing on Social media that her daughter should be allowed to wear her nose piercing. School isn't budging, and everyone else just rolls their eyes at how ridiculous she is.
There will be a uniform code and you sign up for that before your child starts.

DD - almost 12 - has just had her seconds. They look lovely and she will take out her firsts for school.

Personally I wouldn’t allow any piercings until 13.

I think it looks a bit tacky on a young child. Bit like putting makeup on a kid.

12 isn’t a young child

12 is (or can be) 5’4 and 28c bras and size 6 feet and leg shaving and hair dye

its an adolescent pre teen, capable of taking care of a lobe piercing

Not necessarily. I have 3 in my lobe and 2 helix (first one done at 14) and about to get my nose pierced. I also had my belly button pierced at 16 but that is long healed up. My 9 year old has no interest whatsoever in getting her ears pierced at all. She doesn't do well with any kind of pain though so thst could be the reason.

I hope you got a good telling off, way too young for that kind of thing 🤣🤣🤣
