Basically I find my neighbour quite a nuisance and I am not sure if I am over reacting.

She has wind chimes by my side of the fence so I can hear them at night as my bedroom is at the back.

She has multiple cats who would poo in my garden but then didn't like it when I got a motion activated sprinkler and blocked up the hedgehog hole.
I have young kids and didn't want them coming across disgusting cat poo.

She has multiple plants growing over my living room window which I shall be cutting back but again why plant a Buddleia on the boundary by my window?

Some days she will be doing DIY in the back garden past 9pm.

I wanted to be civil with her but now match her energy, ie not saying hello.

With the summer holidays and having kids at home it's just noisy non stop past 6pm most nights.

You lost me at the hedgehog hole. Please unblock it what an awful thing to do.

The wind chimes would annoy me and I'd hate it if the cats killed a bird, but I wouldn't block a hedgehog hole. Hedghhogs have declined hugely in numbers over the last 20 years and are really struggling. Why not put out water and some food for them - many are finding it hard to dig for worms etc in the dry weather.

The poo is a pain but I'd collect it in a plastic bag and give it to her to dispose of. I do sympathise about that. I think you'd be within your rights to get a water pistol to fire if you see a cat about to poo.

Well your neighbour is as clueless about this as you then! Blocking hedgehog holes will not stop cats getting into your garden, and it WILL upset and endanger the hedgehogs.

PLEASE unblock the hole, and tell your neighbours to do the same.

You're not making sense now. You're now saying that the hedgehog hole was already blocked, as the neighbour did it. If that was true, you would not have 'needed' to block it. Stop trying to backpedal. YOU have blocked a hedgehog hole, and YOU need to unblock it!

Cats are awful but hedgehogs are lovely. Please open the hole, they need to move about and are threatened due to the way gardens are now - gravel, concrete, fake grass, everything blocked up, weedkillers and pesticides.

Sprinkle the cats, the hedghogs wont mind it.

No she is my neighbour to the left, I am in the middle, I have another neighbour to my right who also has her hole blocked.

Who is on the other side of your neighbour with the cat? Even access to a few gardens is good, as long as they can get out and on their merry way if they wish to.
But I would have a chat to your neighbour who has already blocked the hole and say that it's a bit fruitless.

My own cat years back (he has gone now) used to fight with next doors, they were both as bad as each other. Next doors cat only really liked going into its own garden so we bought those strips of spikes that go on top of fences to stop my cat going in next door. It worked really well. Is this a possibility? You'd need permission from your troublesome neighbour though to put them on her side.

I don't think I've ever read 'hedgehog hole' so many times in one place before.

100% agree with the first sentence. Most posters agree the OP is being unreasonable blocking hedgehog holes and are saying 'please unblock them,' and yet the OP seems to only be attacking me.

As I said, poor hedgehogs. I feel so sorry for them. Her attitude towards them and how little she cares is dreadful.

I feel sorry for her neighbours too.

They are no danger to your DC and I fail to see the connection between hedgehogs and neighbours cats pooing in your garden?
Cats will get in despite holes being blocked but the poor hedgehogs need them!!!!

Sorry OP - but it’s precisely people like you and your neighbour and the utter ignorance about hedgehogs that mean they are so badly endangered. They do no harm, in fact - they’re known as the gardener’s friend as they eat slugs and other plant pests. A hedgehog is not going to use a tunnel - they don’t burrow and a tunnel would spell danger for them. My DH cared for 6 hedgehogs last winter in the garage that were too small, underweight and weak to hibernate - precisely because they were struggling to find enough food in the summer months. He found them in our garden out in daylight which they never do unless they’re desperate. He kept them warm, fed them and released them a few months later when they were up to weight.

The reason for this is that their habitats - front gardens that are now car ports and fences with no holes for them to move about - mean that they cannot feed enough to gain sufficient weight to last them in hibernation. They go to sleep and then die over winter. Please don’t do what your neighbours are doing. Unblock the hole and if you do see a hedgehog in your garden take delight from it. They’re wonderful creatures.

The only fighting I will be doing is for the hedgehogs. Someone has to care about them, even if the OP doesn't.

We have 6ft tall fences in our back garden, and I’ve seen the neighbours cats jump from our lawn to the top of the fence on numerous occasions.

I sympathise about the cat poo, but blocking hedgehog holes won’t stop the cats.
