…to wonder what the point of the reactions on posts are?

We have the option to react to posts, but only I can see the reactions to my posts, so…what’s the function for? I may be missing the point, it wouldn’t be the first time… 😂😑

So you know how people feel about your post.

It’s a sign of appreciation. Someone has seen your post and … agrees with it, sympathises with you, thinks it’s lovely or thanks you for it.

Saves a lot of otherwise pointless posts. You could for example thank me for my informative explanation by simply choosing a reaction, rather than quote posting thank you ! 🤣

ohhh, That makes sense! I knew there would be something obvious I was missing. Thank you! (pretend this is just a reaction 😆)

Just a reminder that your thanks or whatever will be by the username you are logged in by and not the one on the thread if you've posted, changed name, gone back to thread, clicked thanks.

I think I must be getting old. A user on a different post told me she was right (implying that I was wrong) about something I can’t even remember because of the number of likes her post had had within a certain time-frame.
I guess they are for the young ‘uns.

The Babycentre site shows all the reactions. It makes is easier to see a consensus on a subject because you can see that one comment has 10 'likes' and one has none...whereas Mumsnet is just pages of individual opinions with the odd argued reply...took me a while to get used to when I switched.

Sometimes on MN I wish there was a laughing reaction when someone says something funny. I think there was at one time, but people were using it to laugh sarcastically at posts (honestly MN really does bring out the worst in people) so I think it was removed?
