Wretching noises

I'm not sure if I've over sensitive, but my in laws (DPs parents not whole family) do this thing when anyone mentions a food they don't like where they make a wretching sound like they are pretending to be sick.

I find it really icky, and it's annoying me that they do it in front of our kids because I think it's a bit rude and gross and I don't want the kids copying it or being put off certain foods.

Just not sure if I'm being OTT and if it's a personal ick. DP has pulled it up with them when it's been done in front of the kids, but from a 'we dont want to put them off foods before they've tried them' perspective rather than a don't make a gross noise perspective.

Yanbu I hate it too

Needlessly dramatic. Usually done by the same people who dramatically say 'i'd rather shit in my hands and clap'

🤢

They sound like fucking idiots

nocoolnamesleft · 30/07/2026 21:15

I think that’s about the only wrong spelling that is actually better than the original: because when you are retching you do feel wretched.

minipie · 30/07/2026 21:15

It sounds grim. The sound of someone retching actually makes me feel sick even if they’re not being sick.

Can you say “sorry please could you not make that noise, it makes me feel ill”.

anaconda1831 · 30/07/2026 21:18

It's literally the only gross thing they do, otherwise they are great which is why I was questioning if it's me having an ott reaction. Apols for spelling mistake!

Retching doesn't have a W in it. But no, it's rude and slightly off putting.

I would stop taking my children round until they learned to grow up. That would 100% put my child off certain foods.
