Caravan holidays & windows

I am probably overthinking this but we are away with some friends this weekend in a caravan park. I have stayed in caravans before but not at the height of summer. Do people leave the windows open at night? I don’t like how big they are/how much they open & the fact the dc are in a separate bedroom but equally it might get very stuffy. What do other people do?

Are you worried that your kids will climb out or that someone else will climb in?

Caravans need to be thoroughly aired during the day, they get horribly hot in sunny weather, but they cool down quickly when the sun goes down. Once it is actually cold, they won't get stuffy if the windows are closed but they will heat up quickly once the sun rises.

On most campsites there are a mix of tents and caravans and the tents are a lot less secure than the caravans!

A bit of both @KindlySurfiingPlatypus

We will be out most of the day but don’t really like the idea of leaving the windows open because of theft.
This campsite has no tents.

I would leave them open while we’re inside and wouldn’t give it any thought whatsoever. But we also camp in tents which yes are less secure and no issue either.

We have caravan holidays several times a year and I have never felt the place too hot or stuffy, we open the windows and doors all evening and close them when we go to bed

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/07/2026 14:04

Is it a static or touring caravan? The latter tend to have roof openings for ventilation.

Bristolandlazy · 29/07/2026 14:05

We have the doors and windows open when we're getting up and when we get home. We slept with the windows closed, sometimes the caravan windows are pretty high up and you could easily leave them open at night. The windows are often pretty close to the beds. We took fans when we went away a few weeks ago.

I would leave windows open during the day (what is anyone going to steal?) and when you are up in the evening. Then shut once DC go to bed.

@Likeiloveyoutech, clothes. I know it’s unlikely

Tech - yes. Put tech into the car boot or glove compartment if not attended.

Clothes - really no

You haven’t seen my wardrobe! 😆
