To think his passport will arrive in time?

DH left his passport on a train & despite checking every lost property & following up, no luck. Paid for urgent fast stream appointment but the first he could get was today. The rules say the passport will arrive by courier “one week after the appointment”. We fly Sunday…

Does he have any chance of it coming by Saturday? Has anybody used the passport 1 week service recently? London office if relevant…

@NotDarkGothicMamait’s a good idea! I have thought about it, but I’ve never rlly been away from DD and I’m not sure whether I would find being hundreds of miles away relaxing…🤣

Thanks all. It really sounds quite 50/50 which is agonising!

My mum is going to look into the possibility of coming with me. I have some mobility issues (nothing major) which make me hesitant to travel with DD alone. I can’t always lift her if she is throwing a paddy (she’s almost 2!) so I get very stressed in busy places, and the heat makes my pain worse (41° where we are going…)

I will keep you all updated! X

Hopefully your mum can be back up!

Off topic but are we still saying shit like "throwing a paddy?" - not cool (according to my Irish DP and his family)

RockinCara · 28/07/2026 16:27

My husband renewed his three days ago online and it’s arrived today.

Skatefordinner · 28/07/2026 16:28

@anonhop - another one saying please just go alone and he can catch up. Deal the fear but do it anyway. Honestly don’t let that put you off. I have travelled overseas with 2 toddlers quite a few times and it’s actually it feels really good knowing you have done something you were fearful of. Treat it like an adventure just the 2 of you. Obviously I hope it turns up but they’re is no point 3 people’s trips being ruined.

HappyMuma · 28/07/2026 16:47

I had a 1 week fast track for a lost passport (which typically showed up after I’d cancelled it!) and it arrived 8 days after the appointment. I’ve got my fingers crossed it’s quicker for you.

dementedpixie · 28/07/2026 15:34

And ive just told you it wouldn't be classed as a first adult passport, it would be classed as a renewal that just happens to give him a 10 year passport rather than a 5 year one. When my dd went from a child passport to an adult passport it was done as a renewal as a 1st adult passport means the 1st passport they've ever had.

Did your daughter lose her child passport?
If not it is not the same situation.

anonhop · 28/07/2026 16:54

@Crunchymumso sorry I have never even associated the phrase with that! Just a phrase I was brought up (by Irish grandparent!) with and never thought about
Can definitely see would be offensive, though. Will edit my post.
thanks for pointing out. X

It won’t let me edit for some reason, but I do apologise for it & thanks for raising it.

Crunchymum · 28/07/2026 16:57

Didn't mean to have a go @anonhop

Lots of Irish people don't find it offensive, my lot do.

Hope the passport situation works out.

Just another thought, has someone handed in the passport somewhere other than lost property? Is there any info in a passport telling you what to do if you find it? IE an address to send it to?

anonhop · 28/07/2026 17:07

@Crunchymumthats a really good idea I’ll have a look!

Update- his photo was accepted & application approved!!! Hoping it’ll be printed tomorrow

OP posts:
SnoopyDuke · 28/07/2026 21:26

So approved tonight means likely printed tomorrow and collected by Royal Mail for delivery Friday or Saturday

RM text you the day before they deliver - they usually update their tracking after 6pm on the day they collect from HMPO.

Try going to your local sorting office once RM have text you and are open and see if they will let you collect from them - take the white slip you get given at the appointment, proof of address and other ID. Not guaranteed but some will release it rather than waiting for the delivery

The lost passport will have already been cancelled so even if you got it back do not try to travel on it. It shows as cancelled when it's scanned at airport & will cause issues

Thanks all. Unfortunately can’t really move flights as hotels non refundable. It was a 4 day trip for my birthday…

Have a friend on standby to go with you incase it doesn’t come x

theonetwo · 28/07/2026 21:35

Similar scenario here, he had the appointment over the phone on Friday and passport arrived today (Tuesday). We fly Sunday. I was sick with worry. Once it has been approved it can arrive in as little as 48 hrs. Keeping everything crossed for you.

anonhop · 28/07/2026 21:52

@SnoopyDukethanks- I think if we find it, though, we can do the 1 day fast track x

OP posts:
anonhop · 28/07/2026 21:53

@theonetwothank you so much- that gives me hope. Just hoping they can get it out for delivery on Thursday/Friday. We have a lot of issues with our post not coming for ages and then turning up all at once

Am confused- thought you already had been to an appointment?
If you have done a fast track then the old passport has been reported lost and cancelled.
Even if you found the passport once it is reported lost and cancelled you can only use the 1 week fast track service

GisGasGus · 28/07/2026 22:07

anonhop · 28/07/2026 16:18

@RedVolkswagenBeetlethanks! This is on my “worry about next week” list. Work trip not for a few months!

Take it off your list, why are you mothering a man who can't look after his valuables?

Surely he can sort his own mistakes out?

Can he not pick it up rather then risk waiting for the post?

I didn’t use the fast track service - put I paid an extra fiver and sfter my passport was approved it arrived the next day through Royal Mail. Are you tracking the passport application online ?

ReproVet · 28/07/2026 22:52

I did similar 2 weeks ago. Had appointment in Newport 3:30pm Thursday and new passport was delivered Saturday morning. Keep the faith!

onmylastnerveseriously · 28/07/2026 23:03

I used the docklands office recently for the one week service, appointment was a Friday, passport arrived Monday. So it’s definitely possible OP

Moellen54 · 29/07/2026 00:04

VerityUnreasonble · 29/07/2026 07:54

I had to renew mine a couple of weeks ago (caught out by the 10 year rule!). Appointment in Liverpool Monday, passport arrived Wednesday.

Good luck!
