Pee problems

For about a week - 10 days I’ve had on/off frequency and sometimes urgency. I say on/off because I might have a few hours where I need to go a lot but then it settles down again. No burning pain or obvious cloudiness/smell.

I’ve never had a UTI so unsure what to look for however I have arranged to drop a sample into the doctors tomorrow so it can be tested. If it comes back negative for UTI could there be any other causes for this? Could it be linked to peri perhaps? It’s really odd how it comes and goes, seems especially bad in the evenings.

I could have written this myself! I’ve been having the same issue, tested for a UTI and it was negative, tried OTC thrush treatment in case it was a weird case of thrush but no change. Like you, it seems to come and go but I’ve had this for a few weeks.

I think it probably is perimenopause related, as I’m 44 and have a few other symptoms (insomnia, waking at 3 on the nights I do get to sleep, aching joints, really irritable, bloody itching etc) I’ve also noticed it seems to be worse / barely noticeable at different points in my cycle. I’m planning to see the GP to see if they can prescribe some topical oestrogen to see if that helps.

Hope you manage to get it sorted, if it is a perimenopause symptoms, it’s one of the more uncomfortable ones!

It really is! I’m also going abroad in a few days so if it is something like a UTI I’d rather get a treatment asap. But to be honest the symptoms don’t really fit. I think UTIs generally have more burning and continual pain along with noticeable signs in the urine, although I guess it’s different for everyone. I just think if it does come back negative then where do I go from there?

I’m heading to Florida in 6 days, so really hoping it doesn’t flare up too much when I’m out there!

I find that when I’m distracted or busy I don’t notice it as much / at all, maybe it will be similar for you when you’re on holiday?
I’ve had a UTI before, you can usually tell as it’s very painful / burning, you feel like you need to go pretty much immediately. You could buy some test strips off Amazon and take with you for peace of mind? That way you keep an eye if you do get signs of an infection, you may be able to get treatment otc.

Are you perimenopausal? I used to have the bladder of a camel when I was younger! I definitely find caffeine makes me pee more and more urgently so have limited my Diet Coke intake and drinking lots more water which has helped massively.

I’m 40 so could be but don’t know for sure. It seems worse in the evening. Very odd.
