AIBU to object to neighbours having a BBQ at the front when they have a backyard?

Opposite my home is a path to 6 houses . At the front there is a 1m wide path with c.2m of (tinderbox) grass. Then there is the wall/fence to a mechanics. The 6 properties access to gardens/yards/drives at the back.

So why has the family that lives in the first house have a BBQ at the front? They have a yard big enough to host this.

Its selfish doing this as sparks from the BBQ can land on the grass

Is the grass at the back not just as dry as the grass at the front? Therefore what difference does it make?

All the grass is dry where I am.

No grass at the back of these properties.

I would go to my local library and look up obscure medieval laws that forbid fires from being lit in the front of the house and then send them a letter.

We have one at the front because the sun is there in the evening. It's probably considered common but we're in a quiet street and hardly anyone goes past. We're in a place where the grass isn't dry though.

Why is this bothering you

You can object as much as you like, but don't expect them to listen to you.

Maybe that's why then, they want to sit on lawn. Not really sure it's a problem, but I understand that sometimes unreasonable things piss me off too!! 😂

There will be a reason they have picked it. Bigger, more open, more sun still, less wind or whatever they fancy.

They can have their BBQ on any bit of their land they like.

No it’s not their garden. It’s a shared path from the pavement to the six houses down it. All the houses down the path have a small gated area to the front. The area the family are sitting is public land.

Its annoying me as unable to open my window as them shouting and the lighter fluid smelling BBQ.

Well in that case unless there is some local bylaw then unfortunately for you being allowed to bbq there will still be allowed.

Although you can check as some places do prohibit it but that would be a ring the council in the morning to complain type situation not a police here now job.

Yeah it’s thoughtless if they have their own garden. I’m trying think of a reason why they’d consider a shared pathway in front of all their neighbours is better than their own back garden. Weird.
