To let DS wear a princess dress to nursery?

What do we think? She desperately wants to wear a princess dressing up dress to nursery.

Who is the “we”?

it’s just a dress, countless boys will have done so, and will do so!

You say ds which means son, and then you say she. Which is it?

DS is usually Dear Son but you have said she?

She won’t be the only one to do it, but I wouldn’t let her wear one that you’d be fussed if it got lost/damaged/dirty.

Nursery clothes need to practical for physical activity eg running and climbing, toileting and ok to get paint, mud and food on.
They need to be comfortable for the child and suitable for the weather.

If the dress is those things, then fine to wear. If not, then don't.

Nope. Too hot and impractical. Tshirt and leggings or shorts. How is she supposed to run around and play in nylon and frills?

For a fancy dress day... yes.
For everyday...no. Completely impratical.

Is it something she can run, play, eat and use the toilet in independently? Do you or she care if it gets covered in paint, ripped or stained with tomato sauce?

Personally I always said no - DD could use the nursery dress up stuff at nursery, and the princess dress at home.

I don’t really think a princess dress is practical, usually made of sweaty polyester and are not comfortable surely leggings and a princess T-shirt is a bit better to be dressing in for a nursery day!

On girls or boys just no they sre not practical

Cant see an Issue. I would put shorts and t-shirt on under it for a quick change.

maybe wear it to go in and change when there? each day is different .time to play with leggings on maybe .

No. They have to learn that some things are not suitable for what they are doing.

Not really relevant but I just want to point out that not all of the UK is having hot weather, it’s cool here and rained yesterday!

I like to think I would have allowed my sons to wear a dressing up type dress but honestly I’m not sure, I would be worried about the other children teasing them I think.

My sister lets her kids wear this nonsense all the time and I just find it impractical

I work in nursery and it's not uncommon. The only issue is toileting, can she manage? We usually don't allow princess dress wearers up the steps of the slide as they tend to be dangerous but otherwise they get on with their day. I wouldn't allow it as a regular thing if I was you but once in a while it's probably OK.

I remember a kid arriving late one morning red faced and blotchy and mother who is usually friendly, looked tearful and upset. It was a sunny summer morning. Child stormed in the door in a light coat and took it off to reveal a woolly Christmas pyjamas. Poor mum had had an awful battle and obviously lost.

At my kids nursery princess dresses were regular daily clothing for half the kids, along with other costumes like fire fighter and paw patrol. Why not? Who cares if it gets dirty or gets paint on it, it's just clothing, that they won't even fit for long anyway.

Nursery I’d be a little more cautious over because of the safety aspect with play (get caught in bike wheels and slides etc).

However the premise of children dressing up is fine.
Nipped into town yesterday for some errands and in the space of 35 minutes saw about 8 princesses, 3 spider man, and various others including fireman, nurse and a cat 🤣

They were all behaving and walking sensibly which I think is much more important than what they’re wearing at this age.

The nurse did ask my ds if he needed making better 🤣 (he’s a wheelchair user)
