WIBU to ask neighbours to take down their windchime?

First day I've actually had bit of peace as DD, who has ADHD and is very full on, is at a playdate
There are no kids around, as next door seem to be out for the day. The garden is so peaceful and quiet, lovely sun with just a nice breeze, absolute heaven to relax in for a few hours.
Except next doors massive windchime will not stop clang clang clanging.
I honestly wouldn't mind if it was the noise of kids playing, or a squeaky trampoline or people talking loudly, as those are just the noises of people enjoying their garden
But this is just so pointless, they're not even in!!

Would it be reasonable to ask them to only put it up when they're using their garden??

It feels like it might be as it's not like it's under my window at night or anything.

It's just such a shame that it could be so tranquil if not for this pointless thing in their tree.

Wind chimes are obnoxious. I remember my mum had a set when we were young. The lady next door hated them and my mum refused to take them down😩.

Ask, it would help it they made noise at night. What are they like in high winds?

I like them, but I wouldn't put them out if it was windy as the sound can get a bit frantic.

Very noisy, but it doesn't bother me much as if it's really windy I'm not likely to be out there.
But on warm breezy days like today it's really irritating.

You suggested a good compromise... they put it up when they are in the garden.

That way, they get to enjoy it but like you said, they can't even hear it now they aren't there so it's pointless to them but its irritating you!

If they’re away -sneak in and chop them down ?!

It would be such a shame if it was so windy that they fell to the ground and smashed.

It would be an even bigger shame if it blew away in the wind and disappeared altogether.....

I think this is just something you have to cope with when you live near other people.

They are dreadful so intrusive. I would (and have) asked for them to be removed. I had many sleepless nights because of my neighbours. Thankfully they were understanding and oblivious to the sound

I loathe wind chimes. I can’t fathom how people think they are ok to inflict on neighbours. But then, they are undoubtedly the type who don’t give other people a moment’s thought.

An old neighbour had them. One day I was rude about how annoying they were as I hadn’t realised she was in the garden. She took them down that night thankfully.

I can’t understand why anyone instals something in their garden, with the sole purpose of making noise. Yes do ask them to take it down.

My wind chime was a gift from the police who found my very much loved dog dead on a railway track
so that I remember him when it chimes
don’t find it very obnoxious tbh

It’s one of those things that, depending on the size of your garden and the size of the wind chimes can impact and irritate your immediate neighbours.

i am sorry for your loss, and it was a lovely gift. But not every likes the sound, and they can drive you mad if you are trying to have quiet enjoyment of your garden - or sleep with the windows open in the summer.

my mum liked that her wind chimes pissed of the neighbors. I think most people who get them know some folks will be irritated by them - they just don’t care
