Did I over react with neighbours?

Basically since I have lived in this house which has caused me numerous issues.

Firstly my NDN would get her visitors to park on my drive.
Her kids would play on my drive and throw stuff at my windows.
The other mom's on the cul de sac didn't appreciate me getting a fence erected to stop them cutting across my driveway to go from A to B.

Then my neighbour began playing loud music most days.
The most unsettling thing for me was the fact that my NDN would monitor my routine and visitors etc via her ring door bell.

She commented on my working patterns, who was visiting etc. I felt on edge all the time to be honest.

Depsite all of this I tried to remain friendly as I didn't want tension but it some became evident that we were being ostracised by her and she was spreading gossip about us to others.

Its all very cliquey and my NDN has always got her nose in some poor neighbours business and people have began to clock on to her antics (her other NDN has requested to move - her partner told my OH).

We are now finally moving but I can't help but feel maybe I am over reacting about all of this.
It made me anxious and on edge knowing she was monitoring what we (and others do).

I think she may have some kind of MH issue as she was racially abusing her the boyfriend in the street and he told us when he was picking up his stuff how she was nasty and fully understood why we didn't speak to her and told us all of the stuff she has said about us.

Baring in mind I have only spoken to her 8 times in the 2 years that we have lived here after the last convo she was discussing how young my grandparents looked I just kept it to a simple hello with her after this as it made me feel uncomfortable.

You’re moving. Forget it.

Naurrr · 20/07/2026 11:17

Are you being unreasonable for saying hello to someone? Nope.
Don't give the people a second of thought.

Yes I know, but the whole situation has really gotten me down and I am so thankful and relived it will soon be over.

If your relieved u know your not over reacting there is nothing worse than someone over reaching into your life ,!
In your new home start as u mean to go on keep things cordial but keep to yourself that's my advise x

When I was growing up you and your neighbours were respectful of each other, using illness as an excuse wouldn't have been accepted for bad behaviour.

Over the years something has gone wrong where people think its acceptable to do as they please, in most cases they either use the entitlement or MH excuse, then expect others to be the one's to keep the peace, so no YANBU.

The only unreasonable thing in these incidences is it's always the victim that has to move and never the one causing the problems, which in the case of them being socialising tenants the authorities should be stepping in and removing the one's causing trouble, maybe then the thought of being homeless due to a person's own actions may make the trouble maker start to take responsibility knowing that their actions have consequences and everyone around them can live in peace.

Somehow I don't see authorities doing that en mass though.

Neighbour's visitors parking on your drive, their children playing on your drive and throwing things at your windows, and neighbours taking short cuts across your property are not minor issues . Similarly the loud music.

Her monitoring your routine wouldn't bother me unless you think it's for criminal purposes to identify the house being empty.

I think you should just be very glad you are moving OP. I 've moved myself to get away from.troublesome neighbours, as have many many other people. Much the best thing to do rather than putting up with a situation that causes you stress and worry and stops you enjoying your home

I hope you have better luck with your neighbours in your new home.

I think you're giving this way too much headspace. She was a nuisance neighbour -- noisy, given to obstructive parking etc. You're moving. Who cares what she thinks? Where you move to next, though, be more assertive from the word go. Being a wet lettuce has got you precisely nowhere in this scenario.

Friendlygingercat · 20/07/2026 11:57

The only good neighbour is a dead one.

There are rules about ring doorbell cameras. They should not be used to monitor and comment on your comings and goings. NDN risks being fined for breaching data rules.
