Which version of the iPhone is it? Has it got too warm today?

justasmalltownmum · 19/07/2026 21:28

Clean it again - by rubbing blue tack into the charger hole of the phone. (Dirt sticks to it).

Changedasouting · 19/07/2026 21:29

Try a wireless charger. Claim on the insurance

SqueakyFromme · 19/07/2026 21:30

Is it an older one ? I had this with my iPad nothing worked, it needed a replacement charging port, does the connector feel ‘loose’ in the charging port ?

Fiftyandnotsonifty · 19/07/2026 21:31

Are the updates up to date ?

MadBlack · 19/07/2026 21:32

Restart the phone. Power it off fully, wait a min and restart

LadyEleanorRosalindWhitethorn · 19/07/2026 21:32

put the charging cable in then press lightly up or down when its in the charging port, then you may know if its the connectors not connecting to charge it, i have similar with one of my phones

Blanketpolicy · 19/07/2026 21:33

Ds’s stopped charging with a cable over a year ago, the wireless charging is still ok.

Try these troubleshooting steps for your iPhone 13 Pro Max, in order. Since both wired and wireless charging aren't working, it's less likely to be just port debris (though cleaning is still worth a quick try).

  1. Force Restart (Recommended first step)
This fixes many temporary glitches without losing data.
  • Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  • Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  • Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears (about 10-20 seconds), then release.
Wait for it to fully restart and test charging.
  1. Check Battery Health
  • Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.
  • Look at Maximum Capacity. If it's significantly below 80-85%, the battery may need replacement (common after a few years on a 13 Pro Max).
  • Also note any messages about performance management or optimized charging.
  1. Clean the Charging Port (Blue Tack Trick)
This is generally safe if done gently:
  • Power off the phone.
  • Roll a small piece of blue tack (Blu-Tack) into a point or ball.
  • Gently press it into the port, twist slightly, and pull out. Repeat a few times — lint/dirt sticks to it.
  • Shine a light in the port to check for remaining debris. Avoid metal tools or compressed air that could damage pins.
Try charging again after this.
  1. Other Quick Checks
  • Software Update: Go to Settings > General > Software Update. Install any available iOS updates — some updates have caused charging issues.
  • Test without case: Remove any thick or magnetic case, as they can interfere with wireless charging. Reposition the phone on the wireless charger (try rotating it).
  • Try a different wireless charger or ensure it's a certified Qi/MagSafe one and properly powered.
  • Reset All Settings (won't delete data): Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings.
If Nothing Works
  • It could be a hardware issue with the charging port, battery, or internal connection (fairly common on older iPhones like the 13 series).
  • Contact Apple Support or visit an Apple Store/authorized service provider for diagnostics (they can run deeper tests). If it's out of warranty, a battery or port repair is often straightforward.
  • As a temporary workaround, some users rely on wireless if one method starts working, but since both fail here, professional help is likely needed soon to avoid the phone dying completely.

sorry op, its grok ai but hope it helps @Iphoneproblems

LadyEleanorRosalindWhitethorn · 19/07/2026 21:41

could it need a few mins to get some juice in the battery and then it may power on sometimes my tablet is like that

SqueakyFromme · 19/07/2026 21:41

If it needs a new charging port it cost around £100, I had to send my iPad away but it was back in 2 days and has worked perfectly since (2 years later)

That may be the case

If you have a wooden cocktail stick poke very gently in the charging port

usererror99 · 19/07/2026 21:44

What charger are you using? My iPad is temperamental and suddenly decided it wouldn’t charge and now it will only charge using a 20w I think outlet/socket and only using Apple charge cables - I’ve noticed my iPhone 17 now only slow charging on non branded cables too 🤔

SqueakyFromme · 19/07/2026 21:44

@Iphoneproblems i tried everything, we have professional electronics microscopes and equipment where I work and there was no debris in the port, the new port worked perfectly when I got it back. iPads are pricey so it was worth repairing.

LoveMaths · 19/07/2026 21:46

My 13 stopped charging for a while but was ok with a mag charger. I bought a (less than £5) lightning wire from home bargains and it started charging again. Still is months and months later.

How much was the port replacement? Who did it?

thank you

yes….and no, it’s an iPad Pro 12.9 and I have got another two years and counting use out of so a lot cheaper than a new iPad. It was a place in Worthing I sent it to.

DD said the phone/charging percentage was glitching before stopped working so I guess it could be charging port dying
