To ask why the England team (the men) keep falling at the final hurdle, (well virtually at the final hurdle,) at the football World Cup ... and The Euros too?

Not an England-team bashing thread, but why, oh WHY do they - the men - keep falling at the final hurdle (well, virtually the final hurdle,) every time at the football (soccer) World Cup - and the Euro Cup too...?

They do so well, and get so far, and then BANG they're out. Nearly always in the top 8, or top 4, (and the top 2, in the World Cup once, and a couple of times in the Euros I think,) but never the winner. (Not since 1966 anyway!)

Is it nerves? Is it that they're so anxious to win that they keep making silly mistakes? Are they just not quite good enough? WHAT IS IT? Why do they keep getting so close, but just never manage to get the win?!

As I said, I am not bashing them, and they did well, and I am proud of them, but I just get so frustrated that they can't quite ever get the win!

!

How do they have 'solid' results when they lost in the final in the Euros and now lost in the semi final in the world cup. They don't win anything!

The English women's team on the other hand, DO win competitions

How many finals have the Irish won?
They didn’t even get there, so maybe concentrate on your own failings.

Lol. I'm English, born in England and I live in England.

Wow its going to turn into another bun fight straight away? Some very immature posters on here.

I was born in England and I live in England pet. And we are talking about the English team

Reaching semi-finals and finals is the definition of solid consistent results.

Do you not remember England of the recent past? Here's a small reminder of what a laughingstock England was in tournament football:

Not as consistent results as the English women's team, who actually win competitions.

'My point is - it's not better to get further in a knock out competition, as England were still knocked out'

Oh it is better, obviously. Sad that you have such a negative viewpoint. They were amazing against the Mexicans when everyone wanged on about the altitude, that the Mexicans had never lost in their own stadium etc etc.

Are you just a glass half empty type generally? I'm getting that vibe tbh.

People don't remember how far people get. They remember the winner.

Strange you think im a glass half empty type, your posts aren't exactly bursting with positivity and happiness

You said you lived in Ireland for 20 years? Surely you must know something about the Irish national team?

You can always watch the film Saipan about Roy Keane and the WC 2002.

@mindymoo11 So what? The men's team is the one everyone is interested in and they have done an amazing job improving the consistently awful results of the past

ComeOnEngland12 · 18/07/2026 15:01

Why do I or would anyone care about what other people remember ?
Mexico was probably the best football I've ever seen ? I will never forget that !
I'm really proud of our team and Jude Bellingham in particular has given me deep joy ,pleasure and entertainment. The whole team has been amazing.

Maybe my glass is half full !

I live in England now. And I was born in England. I have lived in lots of different countries. It's a big world. We all move around countries. My best friend just moved to Australia

A team ranked 4th reaching the semi-finals is quite literally the opposite of a 'false picture of reality'.

Exactly. No matter how some people love to bash the England football team, they are definitely in the top 10 best in the world. Possibly even in the best 5 or 6 actually right now. (Well, officially in the top 4 in this tournament!) Grin

Yes you just said, I obviously cross posted. You sounded very pro NI with all the troubles stuff though please don't start on about it again, kindly.

Still losers though.

The disappointment in England the day after the semi-final was a lot. My colleagues were all depressed.

Talking about factual history of a place is not being pro somewhere. Its talking about facts.

And we have moved on, on this thread
