To feel utterly miserable about a future with Andy Burnham as PM?

1000 replies

OneWarmHazelQuail · Yesterday 01:23

I feel like I'm being stung in every possible way at the moment- £15 a day on tube to work, high mortgage costs, high energy costs, private schooling for SEN child (I was told state wouldn't be unlikely to assist him as he isn't mute or violent). My parents have had to help fund schooling it felt like my only hope as son has behavioural issues.

I also have an unsold old home that I have to rent out as it wouldn't sell. Buy-to-let mortgage costs, agent fees, maintenance and tax put me in a loss position.

I can't bear what the future holds with Andy Burnham. I have no doubt that he will find new and imaginative ways to keep me in this financial nightmare. I'm literally struggling from food poverty but regarded as rich by policy.

YABU- Andy Burnham is actually going to make things better

YANBU- I'm screwed

ECHP is not a quick process. Takes several years. Just getting diagnosed is an incredibly long process.

I can't wait another 2 years for help. I need help now. My sons quality of life is incredibly low. Can you imagine what its like to have a child screaming for multiple hours a day and refusing to use a toilet? In addition to working full time, commuting for 3 hours a day. Life is an utterly misery. There's no one to help. I have spoken to health visitor, family centre, autism charity. It's beyond desperate.

I have 3 children, all of whom have ehcps. Education authorities have a statutory duty to process an ehcp within a certain timeframe (around 20 weeks). The support provisioned in the ehcp is based on need and not diagnosis.

The education system in this country is failing but the send education system imploded some time ago

Bringing up autistic children is not like raising children with other disabilities. There is an essay called welcome to Holland. Basically you thought you were going somewhere but ended up in Holland. But Holland is just as nice, it’s different, takes a bit of getting used to it is fine.

The essay for parents of autistic children is called welcome to Kosovo. You thought you were going somewhere but you’ve ended up in Kosovo. There’s some beautiful scenery but, essentially, you’re in a fucking war zone and might not make it out with your sanity or even your life intact

Raising autistic children is beyond fucking hard. I can absolutely believe that you’ve both considered suicide, been there myself.

BUT you do have so many resources that a lot of parents don’t have. You’ve clearly got a brain, and benefited from a decent education, which helps navigate the system. You’ve got some finances to get him something approximating an appropriate education.

Maybe Andy Burnham will shake up the special needs education system which will benefit your son and lots more children as well. At the end of the day, it simply shouldn’t be necessary for you to pay and there are a very many others who simply couldn’t.

Genuinely I think that your glass is half full, perhaps a visit to the gp to get some antidepressants? If you’re already taking them (I don’t know an autistic parent who isn’t), maybe the dose needs tweaking.

Obviously it’s easier to outlast the pm when you’re in opposition 🙄. Especially when people are so quick to blame the entirety of the country’s problems on someone who’s been in charge for less than two years and many of those problems are caused or exacerbated by things out of their control (like wars in other countries).

Yes, it definitely is very much easier! After all, in opposition Starmer outlasted Johnson, Truss and Sunak. 🤣

The current Labour Party is mildly left of centre. You wouldn't know hard left if it bit you on the bum.

No point in arguing with this poster, she’ll just keep parroting the ‘hard left government’ line. 😂

Give me ‘Saint’ Kemi any day, at least she is a straight forward, polished woman with no nasty skeletons in her closet. I think she would make an excellent leader and commands respect. She is our only bloody option!

Thanks for responding to my post about the knife crime. Oh wait, you ignored it after accusing me of not caring!

A straighforward polished woman who makes stabbing jokes to the leader of a party who had one of their MPs stabbed to death. Yes, nothing wrong with that. A woman who wants to take away a citizen's final right to appeal against things the state is doing - we can see how well that is going in the US. And a woman who thinks school age children with autism are getting an 'advantage' rather than a level playing field. A woman who hacks an MP's website 17 times. A woman investigated for bullying her staff. No skeletons? Don't make me laugh.

Yes, the prices of London based flats have been falling for years in many areas.
I don't think @OneWarmHazelQuail has mentioned whether this property is a flat or not. She hasn't mentioned negative equity that I noticed either. What she has done is complain that she is losing out financially from her decision to rent it out. The only solution to this problem, which is a result of her own choices, is to market it at a realistic price in order to ensure a sale.

The cladding issues are a separate issue and I have a huge amount of sympathy for this group of people.

But if she can't sell it at a high enough piece to cover the mortgage or show how she'll pay the difference the mortgage provider can veto the sale. It might not be a choice.

I CBA to find a post about knives. But assuming you are referring to the Sentencing Act 🤷‍♀️

In a rare move, Badenoch was chastised by the speaker, Lindsay Hoyle, in the chamber of the House of Commons after she took the personal swipe at Bridget Phillipson before saying that Keir Starmer had been betrayed and had “400 knives stuck in his back”.

Nope.

One of her party’s own MPs, David Aymess, was stabbed to death as well for that matter.

Exactly. Which in many ways makes what she said all the worse. There's not a scrap of humility or courtesy in her and she isn't clever enough to be witty rather than just plain obnoxious.

This boy practically lived in my house. The one who was murdered. The whole community were devastated. We all marched to stop knife crime which led to stop and search plus a knife amnesty by Scottish Police.

It still doesn’t take away from the fact that finding out why those boys did it and trying to stop them resorting to that is better than locking them up.

There is no cure better than prevention.

I agree, she can be very obnoxious. I’ve never understood why she’s as well thought of as she is.

"Helps you". Well no it doesn't because you have completely avoided the issue.

I see you have also avoided the post pointing out the other double standards re: nicknames. Have you ever used nicknames for Starmer? Or Burnham?

Pp are envious because the Labour Party have never even had a female leader to date! Much less an appointed PM. In 2026 still zero sign of Labour catching up with the rest of the globe. It’s utterly pathetic!

Moreover they are clearly not about to start now. Another white stale male to come sinking in corruption. It’s mind blowing to me that Labour have blown their last chance tbh

Maybe the Labour Party has observed the success of the opposition’s women leaders and decided tokenism isn’t the answer.

Not envious at all. I mean...

Margaret Thatcher: Destroyed social housing and directly caused the housing crisis we are still in today.
Theresa May: Called a panic election, lost her majority, hobbled herself
Liz Truss: Best just leave it at that.

There have been good Conservative Prime Ministers. But the women were not.
