To feel utterly miserable about a future with Andy Burnham as PM?

OneWarmHazelQuail · Today 01:23

I feel like I'm being stung in every possible way at the moment- £15 a day on tube to work, high mortgage costs, high energy costs, private schooling for SEN child (I was told state wouldn't be unlikely to assist him as he isn't mute or violent). My parents have had to help fund schooling it felt like my only hope as son has behavioural issues.

I also have an unsold old home that I have to rent out as it wouldn't sell. Buy-to-let mortgage costs, agent fees, maintenance and tax put me in a loss position.

I can't bear what the future holds with Andy Burnham. I have no doubt that he will find new and imaginative ways to keep me in this financial nightmare. I'm literally struggling from food poverty but regarded as rich by policy.

YABU- Andy Burnham is actually going to make things better

YANBU- I'm screwed

You are embarrassing yourself by reusing an excuse that is now over a decade old!!!!

It’s not a decade old. The vote was 10 years ago, the implementation was more recent and the impacts are very much being felt now. Brexit has had a serious impact on the uk economy and ability to export abroad (exporting abroad is key to growing the uk economy as there’s only so much money in the uk right now and we need to get more from outside of it in order to have more)

Sure if that helps you get past it. He’s still out due to his own MPs.

Same as the last few Tory pms then.

Yes and that too! Of course!

but there still will also crime like theft and robbery and assaults and SA and murders even if all basic needs are met.

i do agree that early intervention and youth services are needed too. But they won’t still eradicate crime so policing and custodial punishments will still be necessary too.

I don't think anyone's argued that crime will be erradicated, or custodial sentences aren't needed. Simply that there are ways, proven to work, to steer people away from becoming criminals, as well as to work with them in prison to reduce recidivism.

As were the previous Tory PMs. Starmers removal isn't unique

No the Starmer love was nauseating but it didn’t work in the end. He’s out, good stuff.

It is notable that anything less than hatred for Starmer makes you a starry-eyed fan according to some Badenoch supporters. Yet any criticism of Badenoch is claimed to be because of jealousy or racism. The double standards are astonishing.

I keep hearing about his amazing achievements in Manchester, but I have never followed Manchester local politics, and I’m sure there are many more just like me

Can you list them for me, please?

Well he gave a loan of £700 million of tax payers money to his mate who then fucked off to Monaco and will never pay it back.

He did precious little about the grooming gangs and got absolutely no justice for the victims and nothing to stop it going on today.

He supports men being in women's spaces even though it won't affect him one bit.

So I suppose if you were of that mindset you could class those as amazing achievements.

Starmer outlasted Johnson and Truss, and comprehensively trounced Sunak. All in four years.

What's your point?

Starmer may resign I understand as an MP, not the start Burnham wanted - losing a by election, and having to try and string a sentence together in the same week. Still his coronation will come and go, then the calls for a proper election will begin.

Sure if that helps you. I recall posters adamant that Kemi would be out and Labour didn’t get rid of leaders. He’s out, she stays. Good, good

Oh and then they will drop the bomb about his dealings with the developers.

I wouldn’t be getting the decorators in put it that way, the paint won’t even be dry and he will be under pressure to resign.

Where have you heard that? And who will be calling for GE apart from Tories etc? Burnham will take no notice if he is wise.

This. The Brexit vote will affect us for decades. 10 years on and people on MN complaining about passports (not having Irish ones), the EES system, lack of opportunity for their children. All that and more squandered by the previous Govt whose supporters/architects of Brexit have disappeared.

Well when it’s uncovered just what he has been doing for the last ten years (clue: it’s not charity work in Africa) he won’t have much choice

Apropos of nothing - I've noticed that Brexit voters really, really, really hate it when you suggest that the weak UK economy might, just might, have something to do with making UK companies' access to the world's largest trading bloc very difficult and expensive. Or that tax rises might not be neccessary had we not removed £250bn and counting from the economy.

Nice day in France

I am sensing no one really wants to talk about Burnham and his lack of credentials, integrity or recent political history. Next they will be talking about the war or the potato famine.

"Helps you". Well no it doesn't because you have completely avoided the issue.

I see you have also avoided the post pointing out the other double standards re: nicknames. Have you ever used nicknames for Starmer? Or Burnham?

SummerPeonies2026 · Today 18:22

You know the grooming gangs, multi millionaire developers and corruption. The lack of scrutiny won’t last for long, and Burnham will also be tossed onto the scrap heap. Maybe millipede could give it a go next, such a poster boy for ‘new age’ Labour

Why should anyone want to talk about things that are in your head?

People were calling for a GE about 6 weeks after the last one on the grounds that Labour didn't get a large enough % of the vote. Meanwhile the Labour majority is as it is. You'll just have to be patient.

Poor you, running low on the come backs now after a full day fighting a losing battle. Time for dinner soon and a break - weary but another day done 💐

The grooming gangs smear doesn't stick. It has been tried on here before.

No, if @SummerPeonies2026 didn't see those calls for a GE then they didn't happen

I’m in no rush, let the hard left government hit the absolute skids, make it as painful and memorable as possible. If we are lucky Labour will do the job themselves, and we will never see them again. All the Labour voters will be long gone and in the arms of reform or restore or any other party starting with R. Runts are Us for all I care.
