Personally I’m on the fence

I knew a couple of toddler Kyra's about 10 years ago when K names were popular but it has been around a while and is not 'made up'.

suburburban · Yesterday 13:46

Don’t like it

Netcurtainnelly · Yesterday 14:17

Never come across it and I hate it.

TrishM80 · Yesterday 10:27

How about "Kay-Tee", it's a cool, modern twist on the boring, old fashioned "Katie"?

This is a tragedeigh.

Needmorelego · Yesterday 15:33

@Netcurtainnelly You've never heard of the actress Kyra Sedgwick ?
And she's not the only Kyra out there.

BillieWiper · Yesterday 15:36

I've not seen it used before. It's ok. Not great but not horrible. I prefer Keira.

Rothburypixie · Yesterday 15:37

I don’t mind Kyra, I can’t say I’ve ever met one, know a Kyla though. It’s a nicer name than Keira imo, maybe because I have a dislike of Keira Knightley 😂

As in “chavvy”

Not in the US where it’s fairly common - as in popular, not chavvy

ToadRage · Yesterday 15:39

I don't like it, it sounds chavvy to me and too close to Kyla which was the name of I girl in school i did not get on with.

FallenNight · Yesterday 15:44

I interviewed a Kyra about 6 months ago, its was the first time I had heard the name. So not common. But I kept embarrassingly calling her Keira as that name is more familiar, luckily she didn't take offense and was confident enough to correct me.

She is now a hard working, likeable, intelligent and confident member of the team. Now goes on my names I like list through association.

Evakan · Yesterday 15:45

It's a traditional greek name- I like it as long as you pronounce it kee-rah. I don't like kai-rah.

PartoftheBand · Yesterday 15:56

It's OK but I wouldn't name a child it as I think they'd spend their whole life with people getting the pronunciation and/ or spelling wrong.

HRTQueen · Yesterday 16:03

I think its a lovely name, my ex mil's name and pronounced Keeira

Many people didn't like my name growing up but often told its a lovely name now

don't worry about it those that think names or bows in hair or hairbands (the list is very long...) are chavvy are best ignored

Harrietsaunt · Yesterday 16:05

It’s dreadful

Sharptonguedwoman · Yesterday 16:13

DoAWheelie · 12/07/2026 22:47

I'd assume she had a sibling called Aiden or similar.

Bit harsh. Aiden's an old name- see Aiden of Lindisfarne. But yes, Kyra is a bit common.

midlifeattheoasis · Yesterday 16:23

It’s horrible

FunkyFringe · Yesterday 16:27

It’s one of those J, K and Z names. Not the worst.

potterspot · Yesterday 17:08

@DoaWheelieWhat’s wrong with name Aidan?! Why are assuming he would be a sibling?

SadiraOfTyr · Yesterday 17:12

The only Kyra I know is Swiss and definitely not ‘common’. She is lovely though. And extraordinarily wealthy.

Katflapkit · Yesterday 17:16

I'm Sweden, locally, we have a couple of Tyras - pronounced tear-ra.

Maddy70 · Yesterday 17:16

I know a couple but I don't live in the UK

Needmorelego · Yesterday 17:47

It's more of that snobby attitude.
I am really starting to hate these threads.

thisandthats · Yesterday 17:49

In the US it's definitely a trailer trash name. Never come across it in the UK really.

potterspot · Yesterday 17:55

@Needmorelegothe racism normally keeps me away.

RubyFatball · Yesterday 17:57

I know a Kyra, whose parents are both Indian. I think it’s a lovely name.
