Personally I’m on the fence

I don’t think of it as ‘common’. I much prefer Kaiya though and not sure why as very similar!

pinkdelight · 12/07/2026 23:26

It’s not common itself but it’s v similar to a lot of K names that are. Whereas Lyra is lovely and doesn’t have that issue.

thinkofsomethingdifferent · 12/07/2026 23:27

My daughter had 2 in her year (she’s 17). Both were the school bullies. Youngest now in secondary and I don’t hear the name mentioned.

Saz12 · 12/07/2026 23:32

I think a lot of "K" names have Kardashian undertones.

But some names sound beautiful in one accent but awful in another. I think it sounds bad in my accent, so I strongly dislike it.

potterspot · 12/07/2026 23:32

I only know of the actress. Do know a Kyria though which I like.

Sparrowsandbudgies · 12/07/2026 23:33

I don’t necessarily think it’s common but it’s certainly not posh if that’s what you’re aiming for.

A bit I suppose, as is often the case with non traditional contemporary or alternatively spelled names, but these things generally depend on the person don't they; if someone rocked up with an RP accent and announced themselves with that name then people likely wouldn't leap to negative stereotyping.

It's not a name I'd choose (but equally doesn't need to be).

Almost all of these makey-uppy type names that start with a K are chav central. Putting a Y in there instead of a vowel is just the icing on the cake.

Kyra isn't a "makey-uppy" name though.

Sounds like a weird name sorry - i wouldnt know how to pronounce it and i think its a bit 'try-hard' - sorry!

Luddite26 · Yesterday 05:50

FWIW I know a lovely lady called Kyra in her 30s not chavy at all never crossed my mind that her name was chavy I thought it was a change from Keira.

Meredusoleil · Yesterday 05:54

There are 2 (1 older, 1 younger) in my school. They are nice girls.

I've never seent that name, where does it originate?

ToffeeCrabApple · Yesterday 05:56

Is it like Ciara but spelled in English phonics

Meredusoleil · Yesterday 05:57

Both the girls I know with the name (different spellings though) have Asian heritage.

Zanatdy · Yesterday 05:59

No, not common.

Lumpycat · Yesterday 06:03

Yes

ToffeeCrabApple · Yesterday 06:07

Tbh the fact that i dont recognise it and suspect it to be a phonetic spelling of other more traditional names, would put me off it. Its like:
Jaxon
Jazmyn
Kayla

Etc

CeciliaMars · Yesterday 06:13

I was bullied by a Kyra at school. To me, it’s really harsh sounding.

Spirothedragon · Yesterday 06:17

My very middle class mother in law is called Kyra, I'm laughing as I never considered that it could be considered chavvy or a made up Kardashian name, she would be mortified 🤣

RichPetuniaAgain · Yesterday 06:17

Lovely name and unusual. Not in the least chavvy in my book 😁

LilOleMe2 · Yesterday 06:25

Not chavvy, but not a middle class name.

Needmorelego · Yesterday 06:33

It has Greek and Persian roots apparently.

Simonjt · Yesterday 06:51

Kyra is a lovely Greek name and title for a well respected and powerful woman, similar to the title Lady in the UK. Kyra also has seperate Persian roots too, and still popular in places that were once Persian.

Sartre · Yesterday 06:53

Yes it strikes me as the sort of name that would be paired with Leigh.
