Are you making sure you are drinking enough.

laurini · 10/07/2026 13:27

Huh? What is the AIBU?

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/07/2026 13:28

Depends on your job I suppose. If you’re a lorry driver it’s potentially fatal. If you’re at a desk less so. Drink water and eat something salty.

Darragon · 10/07/2026 13:29

Well it’s a right faff for the ambulance service so if you’re with it enough to type this, go get some cold water and maybe fresh air.

OriginalSkang · 10/07/2026 13:31

Unless you work alone, presumably someone would get you medical attention?

Theunamedcat · 10/07/2026 13:31

Hot hot not just hot or you have a medical condition

cheezncrackers · 10/07/2026 13:33

How bad is what? It will depend what you job is as to how bad it might be. You're a scaffolder, you could fall from height and kill yourself, you work in a call centre, you might fall off your chair or hit your head on the desk, but you'll probably survive. Drink plenty of water, take regular breaks, if there are any air conditioned places you can go, go there. I'm planning to go to Sainsbury's this afternoon to spend a bit of time in the aircon!

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 10/07/2026 13:35

I think we are poor here at managing our personal environment/temperature. We are a heat sensitive family, so we use wet cloth around our neck, running wrists under the cold tap and patting the water on our faces and necks. Sometimes sitting with feet in a bucket of water! Obviously not things you can do behind the till!

Are you taking practical steps? The neck fans are helpful.

Why would you call an ambulance because someone fainted??!

Op it’s not that bad no. Not pleasant. But as above, unless you’re operating machinery at the time you’ll be fine

Backedoffhackedoff · 10/07/2026 13:44

Interesting username BTW

It depends. Have they just "fainted"? The advice if someone is suffering from heatstroke is to obtain emergency medical assistance. Heatstroke Symptoms and First Aid | St John Ambulance

Heatstroke Symptoms and First Aid

Find first aid advice about heatstroke, including causes, symptoms and warning signs, as well as how to prevent heatstroke, treatment and medical attention.

FeliciaFancybottom · 10/07/2026 13:50

Surely that depends if you went down like a Victorian lady with an attack of the vapours or a sack of spuds being dropped from a great height.
It's not really an answerable question.

I always read the St John’s ambulance website in situations such as this.

AnNonnyMouse3 · 10/07/2026 13:55

What do you mean by ‘how bad is it?’

  • from the employers perspective (ie you’re planning on ‘fainting’ at work so you can sue?
  • from a medical health perspective (no biggie unless you’re experiencing heat stroke)
  • from a ‘how will fainting impact on my role / delivery? No one can answer this as we’ve no idea if you’re a lorry driver, a teacher or a heart surgeon.
NemoNerd · 10/07/2026 13:58

Depends if youre the one driving the train/bus/plane…

For who - you or employer?

I have worked in a very small hot office crammed with computers and 4 people and in a heat reatining part of building pre these ridiculous summers - and I think that would be untenable in these recent heat waves. We looked then but there was no max temp but these days I think a risk assesment would find it unreasonable working conditions and move people.

itchyelbowsandswollenankles · 10/07/2026 14:01

We’ve had people leave sick everyday this week because of the heat. It’s been awful. Thankfully I’ve just left for an appointment but if I had to stay I’d be feeling awful.

80smonster · 10/07/2026 14:03

Doubt anyone in an office would suffer heatstroke? Where is this being typed from? Is OP a lido lifeguard without shade?

Calliopespa · 10/07/2026 14:06

Are you planning a revenge faint on your employer op?
