To love it when colleagues bring their dogs to work and want them to do it more often?

I work in a factory and people sometimes bring their dogs in (not on the factory floor of course but in the office side or other rooms where they can safely be - today there's two in the women's shower room) and I love it so much as do many others. But I suppose there's a chance there's some people in the building that don't like dogs/scared of them/are allergic so don't like it, though no one has complained yet.

Most of the factory is on holiday this month so I am strongly encouraging people to bring dogs in while its quiet and less people to potentially be bothered, so I can get some canine cuddles when I need a break from work.

Composites used in what industry?

The tragic air disaster which killed 193 passengers and 6 crew was investigated by the AAIB, who determined that dog hairs in the carbonfibre reinforcement layer caused delamination along the wing spar leading to failure of the structure and the catastrophic loss of the aircraft.

Investigators determined that lack of hygiene and the unauthorised presence of dogs at a composites manufacturing site led to material contamination in rolls of prepreg delivered to the aircraft builder in July of 2026.

My (tiny) dog has always been an office dog, since he was a puppy. He stays by my side, follows me in meetings and doesn't bark. On the rare occasions I didn't have him with me, my colleagues were not happy.
It's very common in my industry, in London. There are other dogs in our co-working space and it's just lovely, no drama at all.

I expect there will be some members of staff who won’t like it as much as you do. Who will not speak up to say so because they don’t want to be seen badly and because it is at their work, where they get paid. And other jobs are hard to find. In other words, they put up with it. Don’t mistake that for loving it.

oviraptor21 · Yesterday 16:59

Definitely wouldn't want this. Loved my dog. Love my cats - can I bring them in please? But do not love the majority of other people's dogs and cats and they're just a nuisance and a distraction.

Absolutely crazy! We make biologic drugs! Can you imagine the outrage if a dog hair was found in or anywhere around the product! Fuck that!!

As I said, the dog stays with me all the time.
Some people may not like dogs, that's fine, but the dog isn't with them or even near them. All the dogs in the office stay with their owner, it's not like there's a wandering pack of feral dogs.

Don’t believe everything you read, people, even if it adds weight to your dog hating ways.

I enjoy visiting dogs too OP!

Always very happy to see a dog in the office.

This ^ 😍

I prefer llamas to dogs.

I'm glad I don't work there! Dogs in a shower room?!

Exactly. Just no.

I HATE it, please stop it. I don't like dogs, I don't want them in my space. If you want to be around dogs, I think the anus is on you to put yourself in their space, or bring them to yours - NOT push for them to be around the rest of us.

Work is awkward, because many people won't want to speak up about not liking it.

Onus?

FourSevenFour · Yesterday 17:55

Your job seems to be very explicitly pro dog.

In normal one it would be very annoying.
In my experience every time some rules about limited dog access are agreed dog owners push over them and say "but no one complained"... conveniently ignoring that it is very hard to be forced to complain over the same thing over and over just to not have to share the work space with smelly animals.

I was at an all day meeting yesterday of 40 people in a very hot room. With 4 dogs. Constantly having to be on our guard not to tread or trip over them, kick their water bowls etc. owners constantly up and down taking them for wees, giving treats, hushing them when they barked, so speakers lost their threads. Door shutting and opening so they couldn’t escape. Grim day for the dogs, grim day for many people-many of them dog owners ,who DONT bring them to work, the asthematics who need air breaks, and everyone being smiley and seething behind backs. Why do dogs have more rights than babies and toddlers-parents can’t bring them in to strategy meetings but they would be less smelly and disruptive.

I must admit, the anus is indeed on me when my dog sleeps on my lap.

Is that fair on the dogs though to be in a noisy factory all day with strangers at them and not be able to run around just so adults can have "canine cuddles"

This. Considering people apparently love their pets so much a lot of people do see to put their own needs above their pets every day.

I was attacked by a one tusked elephant at a Zoo. It sucked grit up with its trunk and then threw the grit at me. I have also had poo thrown at me by a gorilla. Both foreign Zoos.

LlynTegid · Yesterday 18:06

Not all dogs are lovely, not all are well trained. Though almost all of them seem to think when out with their owners that I am the source of dog biscuits or other treats for them.

A one off once or twice a year, but not on a regular basis.

Not very nice nice but I don't think anyone has suggested to bring their pet elephant or their pet gorilla to the office but I can be mistaken.

Not all gorillas and elephants are lovely and well-trained. When all is said and done, animals are unpredictable.

No one actually uses the showers, we just use the room to dry washing (work clothes)sometimes

So it's a drying room. Which is just where you want dog hair and dribble, obviously.

@OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon was this abroad? I thought in the UK dogs were not permitted in supermarkets? or do you mean farm shops?

There not but a lot of people are very quick to say its an emotional support animal and shove a camera in your face if you dare question it. So its unfortunately quite common now

BoredZelda · Yesterday 18:11

I’d hate it. I’d never get any work done. 🤣

Well this isn’t face to face where people might feel inclined to pretend to be non-commital because they don’t want to be socially awkward. Maybe THIS is the truth, and the truth is most people don’t really like dogs, no matter what you think.

See also trans rights. Theres no way I’d voice my opinion on trans rights (you’re a bloke, get out of our spaces) in real life because apparently that’s not ‘being kind’ and I can’t be bothered with the hassle. But here, I’m voiceforous.

Hmmm, but 41% of the UK are dog owners, so a hell of a lot of people do like them...

Babies, maybe.

It’s easy to ignore dogs - when they bring in babies, everyone is expected to show interest 🤣
