To ask if starting HRT ruined anything for you?

For example, did it reduce your ability to enjoy wine or coffee?

I am about to start (so excited for many reasons) but a couple of people have suddenly given me the fear. If it's no coffee I am just going to ride things out the medieval way (except with coffee).

My looks.

coffee and wine all fine (thank fuck).

notacooldad · Yesterday 18:03

No, it improved my life massively.

I thought it was supposed to make us look better if anything??

Still, I asked the wish genie for wine and coffee and I'm sticking with those.

It came very close to ruining my relationship. I was vile on it. Much worse than my worst days of PMS, and I thought that was bad.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · Yesterday 18:05

Sorry I can't help you, I only had improvements.

To be clear this does help!

No difference except fewer hot flushes.

FourEyesGood · Yesterday 18:06

I can’t enjoy wine/booze at all these days, but that was the case years before I started HRT. It hasn’t impacted my enjoyment of coffee.

HRT has positively impacted all kinds of things: my brain fog, my sleep and my irritability, as well as lots of other things.

Summervibes83 · Yesterday 18:06

Yeah everything is much better! Certainly never heard of it affecting taste for coffee or wine.

I am a tiny bit worried about this because tbh my mood since hitting 40 has only improved. Don't remember going this long without crying since before puberty. But I've heard others say it's not the same as the before times so I'm trying to be optimistic for my bones.

HRT was magical for me. It improved my mood, my looks and I drink buckets of coffee. I have no idea about the wine as Im teetotal.

I hope I'm the same (hooray for coffee!)

HRT has been nothing but positive for me.

suzym1984 · Yesterday 18:11

Only positive here too!

my mood is much more stable, I sleep through the night, and I have coffee every morning same as before!
wine does give me a headache but that started before the HRT

user67392097643 · Yesterday 18:12

Stopped my painful joints almost instantly. I have put on weight though, so no wine trying to fight the flab a bit…overall though, it’s been helpful. Had a wonderful sense of calm/not caring when peri started and still feel the same, DGAF about anything that doesn’t interest me any more - very liberating!

frecklejuice · Yesterday 18:12

I don’t drink alcohol or coffee (I’m so boring) but I’m a much nicer person since taking HRT!

OneLimePombear · Yesterday 18:12

No, nothing except positives include super shiny thick hair, glowy skin, more stability with my mood and no night sweats.
It didn’t happen over night but took
about three months to fully kick in.

Maddy70 · Yesterday 18:13

Only improvements

Sparkletastic · Yesterday 18:14

It’s been all good for me other than causing some bothersome fibroid related symptoms

Slimtoddy · Yesterday 18:17

Got post menopausal bleeding which was probably linked to previously undiagnosed Adenyosis. Adjusted HRT under consultant care and no bleeding since.

I have not noticed any real benefits. Mostly take for osteoporosis risk and had hoped it would help joints but have not had any joy there. If it wasn't for osteoporosis risk I would not bother

Glad to hear it hasn't shifted your calm. I feel the same (although I think I always felt kind of the same it's just that now I don't have the what if I amnt achieving enough??? anxiety)

If you don't get on with it, you can always stop taking it, it's not a one way ticket. It is very individual in its effects.
I've got fatter on it which I don't like, generally I feel a lot healthier though, much less brain foggy, so I will stay on it for now I think.

Nousernameideaaga · Yesterday 18:22

It’s been life changing for me, in a good way

Do you think it has made you hungrier or is it a biochemistry speed thing?

I do think it's nice to be able to savour food as part of the human experience but also would prefer to avoid the weight element. Suppose can try lifting as recommended by Davina etc.

I've lost 6 stone over the last two years (on purpose) so there is no reason why HRT should make you fat. I put the weight on long before taking it.
